Hoisin Sauce

While I was grocery shopping, I stopped to pick up some soy sauce. I noticed the hoisin sauce, and remembered hearing this was a must have sauce in the pantry. (food network)

I read the label, checked the price and <span style="font-style: italic">thought </span>I put it back on the shelf. Didn't realize I put it up on the conveyor belt, was I shocked when I found it in my bag as I unpacked the groceries.

So now me have a full bottle @ home...how it use? what me fi do wid it?

It's been a while since I used it but I used it on salmon too.

I agree strongly that it's a taste that you either love or hate. No in between.

Thanks Peasie....I did buy a piece of salmon this weekend. I'll have to try it this way and see if I like it.

Twiney, It was less than $2 for the bottle, I figure I could at least give it a try. Yes I googled it as well.

stir fry mi usually use it for haven't tried it as barbecue

It is sufficient. That is the seasoning.

I liked it a lot but one of the exes hated it. I also had the same reaction from friends - love or hate. Eventually you may want to add garlic or onion but for the first time, definitely just do the sauce alone.

Hoisin is good in stir fry but you need to be able to smell the hoisin and mix it in your head with what you are mixing it in with on your stove or you might not like what turns out.

Something with meat onions and sweet peppers and some strength of flavor. You can also add a nice strong chicken stock and some cornstarch and make a sauce for stir fry. Probably 3/4 cup stock, level tablespoon of hoisin and a heaping tbspn of cornstarch .

mix cold, heat til it thickens.

Hoisin is also used on shao-mai, har-gao, turnip cake (much much better than it sounds) and many other things like fried Peking dumplings that can be had at Chinese dim sum restaurants.


Smell it, heat it, taste it on a small piece of meat or anything that you think it might be good on after you smell it and think you get the chemistry of its flavor..
