I have no experience with them. Last fall I threw out the microwave. I do not miss it one iota, not even for a cup of tea. My stove is plenty fast! I warm food in my oven a lot though, and summer is coming. I refuse to go back to microwaving, it totally ruins everything but soup and though I love the counter top footprint I gained sans microwave, I see a need to do something soon.

Re: Toaster Ovens
I don't really want to toast anything, but want to warm foods that I usually would do in the oven. Hmmm. I haven't had a toaster in decades since I don't like toast!
Thanks for the hard to clean tip. That is a definite factor. I wonder if some are easier to clean than others?

Re: Toaster Ovens
Nanook, is that a birthday cake next to your name? Happy Birthday
So here's my experience with toaster ovens. Those things just don't last with heavy use. When there were teens and pre-teens in my house I went through a toaster oven, DeLonghi included, every other year. My current t/o is a KitchenAid.
Toaster ovens are notorious for starting fires. Teenager + taco shell that touched the heating element = only use of fire extinguisher in my entire life
IMO toaster ovens are not really great for heating food. I would rather heat food on the stove. How about a stove-top steamer? BTW steamer ovens are now all the rage but they are very expensive.

Re: Toaster Ovens
Thank you for all the replies everyone (and the birthday wishes too)..
I am so undecided as to what to do. Maybe a steamer is what I should look into. When I threw the microwave out, I mostly wanted the counter space, then thought about how seldom I use it so out it went. It is also a convection oven so I should look into the manual and see how it works before I throw it all the way out.
So anyway, over the weekend I thought I would give the microwave one last whirl (it is out in my shop on the fridge while I decide what to do with it). Not having a microwave food item since around October, I warmed up a piece of jerk chicken and some rice and peas. I couldn't eat it! OMG, though I was never a fan of the food cooked or warmed in one, I never realized until months without one how awful they really are!

Re: Toaster Ovens
Nanook,
In our experience, many toaster ovens are highly unreliable.
We just tossed our Black and Decker because of the erratic operation of the toaster function.
My wife did considerable research on various toaster ovens and came up with the best reviews and the fewest complaints on an AVANTI. we bought one online about two weeks ago.
It cost about $60.00 and so far is working nicely.

Re: Toaster Ovens
Thanks JC, I will look at them.
So far I haven't seen anything I am willing to give up precious counter footprint too, but I have been occupied by moving my Dad's things and settling his estate. It's too bad he didn't have a toaster oven!I'm thinking of selling my vintage apple canister set & replacing them with tall glass jars, which would free up some room. Then I would have room for a smaller toaster oven too.

Re: Toaster Ovens
Save on the electricity it takes for a toaster oven to heat frozen items by microwaving the frozen item until thawed or warm and then toast for crispness etc in the toaster oven a much shorter time.
I do this with Greek spinach pie, leftover and frozen pizza and many other things that need to be crispy but not dried out.

Re: Toaster Ovens
That sounds like a good idea. I should go back to thinking about this because I have the oven on today to warm up some ribs. On a day like yesterday the air conditioning would have to run harder from running the oven, grrrr. Today is beautiful so I won't have that problem since the windows are open!
Must put toaster oven back on list...
