Dinner Parties, but CANT cook...

....what to do?

We have this friend...well actually is my friend (di current mr ilp just goes along).... anyhew...she is a dear, sweet person. I mean a really nice person. Here is the issue:

She LOVE cook and host dinner parties, but she cyan cook AT ALL. Har food eidah salt, no salt enough, bun up, no look appetizing, overcook...undercook....the last time we were invited over we both had a severe bout wid food poisoning. It was bad Needless to say...we havent been to other dinner parties due to "other commitments" in months.

Well Thanksgiving Holiday coming up and we traveling back East fi a spin and guess what? She want to host us for dinner. She call already and seh she will terribly offended if wi no mek this appearance. mi offer fi meet at restaurant, come over fi drinks/dessert, meet fi coffee, cook fi har (using the excuse that "she always cooks), chip in (ie. everyone brings a dish)...but she insist on dinner...that SHE prepares.

Onnu fi must tell me how to tastefully (pun intended) get out of it...WITHOUT hurting har feelings

say that u eating dinner with family but will pass by after for coffee

We not going to her house for Thanksgiving Dinner. She wants to have us over the Monday before.

is she hosting only you and your men or will the party be for others as well?

Maybe you could become suddenly ill? or on a restricted diet/fast?

she have a dog that u can feed under the table?

my sister used to bundle up her veggies in a paper napkin and either trow it outside- (we had 4 big dogs out there) or flush it down the toilet when my mother did fed up and leave her at the table to finish her dinner

usually 2 or 3 other couples are there. we have used the being ill excuse before (di current mr ilp was really sick one time). the push around the plate thing we do all the while and all take home bags (she's a big fan of sharing leftovers and recipes...smdh) go in the trash as we reach home.

how about you tell her that as she always does the cooking this time you are giving her a thanksgiving gift. You will cook the food at her place with your new north mexican recipes ?

Why is it that the other couples scarf dung the food like a michellin chef serve them or do the other peeps that come to dinner feel the same way ??

Other than telling her that she can't cook a lick, which you should.

Continue to go to the dinners but all 3 of unnu should eat before unnu guh (pack food fi Hunter and tell her him eat special food in case him decide fi grab food off the table). Unnu should just drink coffee and eat unnu own cake that unnu bring.

If she is a good friend, then gift a class or 2 or series at a cooking school and before she goes to the class, talk to the chef and ask him to give her specific instructions on food handling/cooking in general and ask him to keep it between unnu 2

the dinners where we've been with other couples...the only person eating is her husband, who nyam har food like is Johnson &amp; Whales Chef cook fi im. mi sorry fi im so till sometimes. the rest ah people pick, pick through dem food.

hunter hasnt had the &quot;pleasure&quot; of dinner. we've always left him someplace else...which we doing this time too.

Now the idea of cooking classes sound like a good one but oonu know what ironic? she subscribe to all kinna cooking magazine and blog. ahn she love chat bout har addiction to Food Network and Top Chef, etc. when you sight har kitchen...it fully stock wid ingredient of all kind.

She isnt the neatest cook though She says di kitchen is cluttered, but Jamaicans might call it something else.

Telling har point blank that she cyan cook is completely outta the question
