Her dishes are good, but she is definitely not health conscious. She definitely puts butter and mayo in places where I don't think it belongs.
Gen, she fries almost anything. I'm trying to remember what it was she fried one day - ice cream or cheesecake. I really forgot lol.
Also, I know what cracklins are, but I had never seen anyone make batches just for snacking. In short she baked a ham, cut the skin off, and then turned around and deep fried the skin.
I am not surprised that she's diabetic or that she smokes. I'd be surprised if she didn't have high blood pressure too. I believe she hits the sauce kind of regularly too.
Be that as it may, some of her dishes are really tasty - crabcakes being one of my favorites.Comment

There's hardly a single cook on The Food Network who isn't on the heavy side.
The Every Day Italian lady (Giada I think is her name) looks healthy and her dishes are also delicious. You shouldn't judge a book its cover though.Comment

You are right Tulip about the overweight chefs.
However, I've met a few of them...Wolfgang, Bobby Flay (who's food I LOVE) and Mario Batali.
They are all quite health mindful, as Flay sometimes and recently (as in the last one) runs the NYC Marathon for a charity he runs. Giada (I LOVE her food too)...lives in Hollywood and surf, etc. Mario, who's food and him grosses me out completely
, had a scare with his heart (not sure if it was a heart attack) a few years back and trimmed down quite a bit.
But I guess it would be hard to work around all that food (and having to taste things) while creating recipes and checking on your restaurants and not be kinda of fluffy.Comment

ceabee, the consensus is that her recipes are tasty. just not healthy, and certainly not helpful for diabetics.
here's a pic of her deep fried mac and cheese. that's a layer of bacon between the bread crumbs and the mac and cheese.

So it seems Ms.Dean hasn't eaten the foods that she has been pushing in her cookbooks and on her shows for some time. She is reportedly coming clean now as her type 2 diabetes has gotten out of control and she is now going to be pushing (as in the official spokesperson) a diabetes drug by Navartis. Her sons have gotten a deal (both tv and cookbooks) with Food Network to "clean up" their momma's recipe's...she has already began making appearances.

yes I know she fries everything. none of her food appeals to me on any level. all mi see is inflamation and mi cells dying. Just hearing her name makes my arteries quiver.
there are plenty of fit chefs out there.
giada once said that she just tastes a spoonful of the food, and several of them have said that they work out/keep active
I have watched emeril blow up over the years, but batali live a nyc where everybody walk suh dat is a shame, although he has dropped a couple of sizesComment

so she's known about her health issue for 3 years now, so critics said she waited for an endorsement.
with annual revenue of over 10 mil, did you really need an endorsement Paula ? really ?
