Mushrooms

Somebody decided to accept a "gift" of mushrooms at yesterday's Superbowl Festivus as they had a dish that was basically ALL mushrooms and "LOVED" it

Who's job is it to cook them? What mi know bout fixing mushroom
Oonu can give me some recipes

O, ahn please to keep the ones about "adding them to (some other meat).....Mi already know those. Thanks.

I actually like mushrooms..

I did a stir fry last night for she whom all men fear and her brother...

I basically wash them chop them, then stir fry em... with noodles or what ever is in the kitchen in terms of vegtables.... last night was just mushrooms and frozen peas.. with soy sauce...

My favorite it to heat the oil add to the oil some jerk powder mix in stir fry carrots till they are soft, then add onions half way through the carrots , then the mushrooms....

then sea foods like calamari, pulpo... prawns

then the noodles....

or I leave out the jerk and at the end add teriyaki sauce or soy or sweet chili..

I love mushrooms...

Usually cook it lightly in butter with just a little garlic salt for flavour

when cooking i'll dice onion and slice green pepper and add it to the mushroom..some times adding chopped scellion to it.

some times i'll eat mushroom raw...I'll serve it on the side with corn or add it to spaghetti, or my absolute favourite for mushroom, on some friday evenings, i'll cook a grilled cheese sandwich with mushroom added to it. very very delicious

It come out nice. except too much liquid...how mi fix that

Hielpee,

You can use either cornstarch or flour mixed in a little cold water and then slowly add it to the cooking mixture. This will thicken the liquid into gravy. In something the size of what's in the picture you'd need about two tablespoons of cornstarch and slightly less of flour. The trick is to add the watered thickeners slowly to the cooking mixture and until you reach the consistency you want.
Do not add plain flour or cornstarch to cooking food as it will just lump up.

Hi Sue,

The adventurous eaters should also try chicken mushrooms which are my absolute favorite. Unfortunately they have not been able to cultivate them and you can only get them in the woods. Even then you have to pick them when they are just a day or two old because they get tough and woody after that.

They are called chicken mushrooms because when shredded the white insides look like chicken meat.

Thinly sliced and sauted in butter these are just marvelous and these are so unlike any other mushroom in color and shape that it cannot be mistaken for any other nor are there any poisonous mushrooms that look like chicken mushrooms.

They seem to grow throughout the summer and into early fall when conditions are wet enough and tend to come up in the same spot every year until whatever it feeds upon underground or the rotten wood on which it is found is used up..

The Chinese markets and fancy supermarkets like Whole Foods also carry Oyster mushrooms which are also excellent -no they don't taste like oysters- probably named for the color which is off- white or off-oyimbo if you like.

A friend has a few maple trees that yearly produce a bumper crop of oyster mushrooms and I usually get about five pounds of those which I eat until I don't want anymore for another year.

Lastly, they are now cultivating the wonderful Hen-Of-The-Woods mushrooms in old oak tree trunks and a few other media and these also can be found in a few stores.

Do note that there are a few mushroom pictured that are not either Chicken Mushrooms nor Hen-Of-The-Woods which were included through someone's error one of which grows in my rock garden and which while edible isn't all that good.

Also of interest, Hen-Of-The-Woods in the wild always grow next to -not on- oak trees exclusively and are symbiotic (live in conjunction with live oaks-they tie into the roots ) and are not saprophytic ( living off dead material) as are most mushrooms and are almost always an early fall mushroom.

A warning: If you cannot positively identify a mushroom. DO NOT EAT IT

The real deadly ones will kill both your liver and kidneys in a couple of days.

did u wash the mushrooms before cooking? that may explain the extra liquid. u supposed to wipe dem dung. apparently dem wi absorb water if u wash dem, then spring the water during cooking.

to fix cool some of the liquid. add one tsp of corn starch (or more to suit your taste) to the cooled liquid return it to the pot and mix. that would go great with glutinous riice or any rice indeed.

i washed them like the packaging said. maybe mi will try the wipe down method.
