CROCK POT BARBECUED CHICKEN
1/4 c. water
3 tbsp. catsup
3 tbsp. vinegar
2 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tbsp. lemon juice
3 tbsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. paprika
1 tsp. dry mustard
1/2 tsp. cayenne pepper
1 (2 1/2 or 3 lb.) chicken
Combine water, catsup, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice, brown sugar, butter and seasoning in a saucepan; heat to boiling. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Place chicken in the crock pot and pour sauce over it. Cook slowly overnight or on high for 6 to 7 hours. This barbecue sauce can also be used with pork and beef.Comment

I don't know what would possess you to make bbq sauce from scratch. This Paula Deen is like my daddy's own.
Easy BBQ Sauce:
3/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons packed dark brown sugar
3 tablespoons white wine vinegar
2 tablespoons minced onion
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/4 to 1 teaspoon hot sauce, (recommended: Tabasco)
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
3 tablespoons chopped scallions (white and light green parts)
1 1/2 teaspoons freshly grated lime zest
1 1/2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lime juice
Lime wedges, for serving
In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, onion, mustard, hot sauce, and black pepper. Stir in the scallions, lime zest, and lime juice. Can be covered and refrigerated for up to 1 week.
Yield: 2 cups
Just put everything in the crockpot on low for 8 hours. It is a way better situation if you have some skin on your chicken. If you are working with something like boneless, skinless chicken breasts then run the crockpot on high for two hours to seal the juices in and then turn it down to low for only about 4 hours.
I have to go through the sauce routine every 4th of July with my dad. I really think it would be easier to just buy some. I'm not altogether sure it has ever been worth the effort. That being said the recipe I posted is good.
You only need to worry about a marinade if you are grilling but that is not the case. Even just a simple overnight soak in Italian dressing works well. Newman's Own is a good brand.
If you ever get permission lol to grill, remember a vinegar based marinade is good and sauce with sugar is good for the crockpot. Don't do any seafood overnight -two or three hours at most. The acid will cook it otherwise.Comment

Because I find the amount of sugar in store bought ones to be a bit much. But even though me nuh really like Paula Deen...this recipe nu look too bad. Mi gwine try it.
