Smaddy kindly gifted me with a home-made Easter bun.

I gave her a black cake at Christmas, and she returned the favor. It's all wrapped up prettily, so I didn't unwrap it yet... but it weighs a ton! Good Lord!

So... I guess it's not sacrilegious for me to eat it with extra sharp cheddar, instead of Taystee cheese, since not all of unnu eat the tinned stuff? dwl

Tropicana as you say you can get good Easter bun in toronto and Montreal - My family who had / has bakery in Falmouth - most had migrated to toronto and started a bakery there as well... wonder if is fe dem nbun you eat

If I was home now - the odda family bakery ah Montego Bay would bake some SPECIAL Easter bun - OH MY LORD! just moist and delicious ( i feel like mi going into a deprivation coma ) By the time I get home in June they will be finished - limited edition :sad: *sigh*

It was in the 1960s. Another Chinese family owned it before yours, right? Wasn't there a balcony overlooking Slipe Pen Road? I seem to remember climbing up outside stairs to watch a parade or Jonkanu

We moved out of the neigborhood in mid 1960s but my dad still had his business on Brentford Road until late 1970s.

Wasnt that in the 70's ????when ur father got shot... I seem to have memories of it... as it brought out the worst in Jamaicans and memories of the anti chinese riots of the 60's....This was something Tuffy has mentioned in the round that chinese were bullied out....

I am amazed tat there is the idea that there was a single flavour and style to Easter buns.... there were multiple flavours... my mum usta bake three time a week so we rarely had store or bakery bought bread...

Homemade bread is so much better tasting than store bought ... bout a loaf about a month ago and the ppl in my house wouldnt eat it ... ended up in the trash
