Memories of Jamaican ginger sugar anyone?

Hi guys
Its a long time since been here, so much interesting things to read.
There are a lot of good Jamaican recipe here and I would like to find one which in spite of my many google, have come up with zilch.
When I used to go to school way back in late 1950s, at lunchtime we used to go to nearby crossroads mostly to have a cheap filling lunch from a cafe next to Carib cinema where the main line was meat based.
we also liked to go at a shop just opposite the Ritz cinema which sold a candy blocks that they made called "ginger sugar" which in spite of being very fiery hot we couldn't stop eating.
I cant find any recipes for this anywhere, and it seams to have died out much like an extinct animal.
Anyone remember or can point me in the right direction? help bring back some memories of my teens?

Except for Carib Theatre, I don't remember those places in Cross Roads but that was before my time

I couldn't find a Ginger Sugar recipe so I adapted this version of candy making. I think it might work...

4 cups confectioners' sugar
3 tablespoons light corn syrup
1/2 cup very strong ginger extract (make this by peeling a large ginger root. Cut it up finely. Boil in 1 cup water uncovered until reduced to half. Strain. Let cool.)

Lay some wax paper in a cake pan.

Combine sugar, corn syrup and ginger extract. Heat over low heat (do not allow water to boil) stirring several times until sugar dissolves and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and let stand in hot water to keep soft.

Spread in cake pan. Let cool. Break or cut up into serving pieces.

There is a delicious ginger candy, see below, that I get at the Asian market. It is very much like ginger log but much stronger ginger Excellent for stomach ache

Ingredients:
A pound of fresh ginger
About a pound of sugar
Water
Saucepan
Kitchen scale (very helpful)
Wax Paper

It's one of those step-by-step recipes with a picture after every two sentences lol. It's helpful for preparation but inconvenient to cut and paste so click the link above to see it. Here's a pic of the finished product:

Is this the log of sugar they used to call &quot;wet sugar&quot; it was sold in squares like 1&quot; x 1&quot;. I remembered something like this that children bought in the 50's/60's. This was popular near to the sugar cane factories. I have not seen or heard of this in many moons.
