Forget a stop at the grocery store; you can just pick up some dinner on the drive home.
A new bill in Montana, nicknamed the “roadkill bill,” is just a vote away from becoming law in the senate.
The law would mean anyone who kills deer, elk, moose and antelope on the state’s highways can legally bring home the carcass to eat.
Montana state rep Steve Lavin tells reporters, “there’s a lot of good meat being wasted out there.”
The Calgary Sun reports in 2011, more than 7,000 dead animals were collected along roadsides.

So? What's wrong with it?

You know it's fresh meat... it was just running across the highway immediately before you hit it.

Why would you waste all that fresh meat? Meat's frightfully expensive to buy... especially game meat! (at least, it is here in NJ) -shrug-

The only thing wrong with this is that it's incredibly stupid to waste an expensive car front end, when a hunting license + basic hunting clothing & gear is so comparatively cheap. But once that damage is done (no pun intended), one might as well have the meat; it's criminal not to be permitted to keep it, IMO.

not my thing at all. they say that the meat is more delicious than say deer raised in a farm environment. they have to give the farm deer harmones and antiobiotics for eg and that changes the taste of the meat.\


in the country when a deer or elk gets killed the locals are the first on the scene through their tom tom net work asking "are you gonna eat that?"

you'd need a hummer to survive a hit with a moose though.

HA! In northwestern NJ (Sussex county, Warren county) - just get the hell out of the way, coz the locals will be out there with their linoleum knives all too soon... and you don't wanna be mistaken for part of the road kill!

I, myself, have slit the throat of a not-yet-dead doe, lyingby the side of the road, just hit by a pick-up truck, with an old linoleum knife. After the first messy cut, you get used to it, and just make sure not to crouch in the direction of the blood fount. You learn how to field butcher (OK, side-of-the-road butcher) quickly, take what you want, and leave the rest of the carcass for the birds of carrion that are already circling above your head. No big deal. Free delicious meat.
