Re: MySpace Love
“So tell me if I have this right?” Michelle said as she tried to loosen the jam in the fax machine. “You found out he has a girl he calls you and apologizes and then next day he’s in your pants.”
“You make it sound so bad!!” Nikki whined.
“Um…maybe cause it is. Nikki you haven’t heard from him in three days. Enough time for him to think up a good game.”
“Game; it’s not a game, its just sex it’s not that serious.”
“Okay, if you say so. Please don’t come to me when it hits the fan. Don’t let loneliness get the best of you.”
“Lonely! Girl please!”
“Okay, but I for a fact know that right now you’re settling.”
“Whatever, Michelle I know what I’m doing?”
“Okay whatever you say.”
‘I’m tired of Michelle always thinking’ she know everything.’ Nikki grumbled as she sat on the train. ‘He’s not playing me. I’m getting what I want.” She thought. Her phone rang, it was Dameon. She waited until she was above ground to call him back.
“Why didn’t you answer the phone when I just called?”
“I was on the subway; you know calls would drop down there.”
“Okay, so how you doing?”
“Good, good. How are you?”
“Not so good.”
“Why, what’s wrong?”
“You make me feel like crap, man”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, I go down on you. I’ve been doing that from day one. You refuse to do it for me. I don’t get it. Don’t you trust me?”
“Yea I trust you, but that’s not the point you have a girl Dameon. That’s crazy, I’m not doing that!”
“Look, I can’t tell the last time I’ve had sex with her…don’t bring her up this is about you and me. You know I can dial any girl right now and she’ll be more than willing to.”
Nikki didn’t know what to say. She kept silent. “Would I be able to see you tonight?” Dameon asked breaking the silence.
“Sure, call me before you get here.” Nikki said as she entered her apartment. She hung up the phone and quickly called Michelle. She explained the phone call in detail and Michelle answered her bluntly.
“Look I love you, so I don’t care if I hurt your feelings in a positive way.” Michelle said then paused. “He is a player and not a well seasoned one. He still plays like he’s in High School.
“First of all, you are right. He has a woman the more reason why you shouldn’t sleep weith him much less go down on him. You don’t know if he’s sleeping with her with or without protection. I’m sure you don’t want to walk around with breakouts around that pretty mouth.
“Second, he has some damn nerve! He ‘can get it from anywhere?!’ I’m mad you didn’t hang up the phone! You should have told his sorry behind that he should call the other hoes then and leave you the hell alone. Why call you? He can call one of those tricks, right?!”
“Wow! You didn’t have to say it like that! Michelle this is only a sexual relationship…so.”
“So you don’t have to go down on him! Don’t do for him what you’ll do for your man. He does only part-time don’t give him full-time benefits!” With that Nikki knew that Michelle was done talking. Nikki had received her lecture now it was time to see if she learned the lesson.
Nikki opened the door and instantly Dameon was all over her. She pushed him back and straightened herself took a deep breath. “I was hoping we could do something different this time.”
“Like what?” he asked with a confused look on his face.
“Like watch a movie, talk maybe.”
“Huh?” Dameon said. He sat in the couch as he tried to stare down his bulging pants. Nikki noticed and blushed. “So what movie did you have in mind?”
“I don’t know I have a few I haven’t seen on the shelf over there. They’re still unopened.” Dameon got up to peruse the titles and pulled out 300.
“How about this?”
“Looks good.” Nikki grabbed some wine glasses and a bottle. “Want some?”
“Sure.” The tension in the air was thick. Both wanted each other but were fighting the urge to jump at each other. Before they knew it they were on their second bottle of wine. The laughed and talked for awhile forgetting all about the movie.
Nikki stretched out in bed and blinked a couple times to focus on the clock on her nightstand. “Thank God it’s the weekend’ she mumbled to herself as she curled and sunggled into her pillow.
“You telling me!” Dameon responded.
Nikki’s eyes popped open at the sound of his voice. She flipped over to see Dameon laid back with his arms behind his head.
“What are you doing here?!” Nikki asked.
“What? Isn’t it obvious?” Dameon asked indicating his naked body. Nikki rolled back to her side and grimaced as if she had a bad taste in her mouth. She hoped that wasn’t the bad taste she thought it was. Then a thought occurred to her.
“Where’s the condom?!” She asked as she stood up and looked around trying to find a clue of a condom; the wrapper, the box, something!
“What condom?” Dameon said in a relaxed tone.
“Get out!!”
“What, why?”
“Get the heck out!”
“Fine be a [censored] about it!” Dameon quickly put himself together and stormed out.
Nikki sat on the bed staring at the wooden floors. She picked up the phone and dialed for Michelle.
“It’s too early on our day off.” Michelle said groggily.
“I’m sorry.”
“Your sorry? Okay what’s wrong?”
“We slept together again.”
“I don’t want hear it-“ Nikki cut her off.
“We drank and he didn’t use a condom!”
“Well Nikki usually people don’t use a condom while drinking.” Michelle said with a chuckle.
“You know what I mean!” Nikki sobbed. Michelle’s silence was haunting. “Hello?”
“I’m still here. Well not much to do now but not to worry. We’ll go to the clinic Monday morning and then every six months to make sure you’re okay.” Michelle suggested. “In the meanwhile please avoid him. He only wants to start trouble.”
“’k. I’ll call you later. I’m going to catch a bath.”
“Don’t worry Nikki.” Michelle warned before she hung up.
Nikki stood in the bathroom for awhile, thought ran through her head as she imagined herself sick or pregnant. “Pregnant?!” She said aloud as the thought approached her mind. She quickly dressed and made her way to the pharmacy for the Morning After Pill.
Walking down the aisle towards the pharmacy felt like an out of body experience.
“Nikki?” a voice called from behind her, but as dazed as Nikki was she didn’t hear. “Nikki!” The guy grabbed her arm. Nikki spun around o see Adam, her recent ex. The ex that had her cursing all men and refuse to give her heart again.
“You have some nerve.” Nikki pulled her arm away.
“Look I’ve been trying to get in touch with you.” He said grabbing her hand, physically begging her to hear him out.
“For what, haven’t you used me enough? [censored] off!”
“I deserve that, but please you need to listen.” Nikki stood annoyed and sighed, ‘what else could go wrong today?’ she asked herself.
“Look I know I was a jerk. I know I was wrong. Give me a chance to say I’m sorry; let me get the chance to tell you how much I’ve been tormented and I’ve learned now that you were a good woman.” Nikki rolled her eyes and folded her arms. “It took almost two years of relationship after relationship to see that there was one Nikki.” Adam spat everything out as if he was being timed. Not realizing how much of a rambling mad man he favored.
Nikki stared at Adam for a few seconds forgetting why she was standing in sweats in the middle of the aisle. She kept her ice cold look on even though her heart melted. The five years she spent with Adam was the best relationship she has ever been a part of.
“Look I’m in a hurry; I have something I need to take care of.
“Is it okay if I call you later, the number is still the same right?”
“Yeah, yeah whatever. Talk to you then.” Nikki knew at this point Michelle will probably kill her.
“Say what?” Nikki couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
“I always liked Adam for you. Yes he did make a few mistakes, but overall he was a good guy.” Michelle said pulling closer to Nikki trying to get away from a guy sitting next to her with a bad cough. Nikki moved over a seat. The clinic wan’t busy at all ash she thought it would be.
“Glad you told me all this before I went on Myspace searching for love.”
“Well I did tell your sill behind that you shouldn’t look for love on that bootleg version of Match.com. Don’t you see the majority of those people are crazy. Let’s just hope that Dameon was embarrassed enough to stay away.”
“I hope so…”
“Nikki, Nikki Barnett!” The nurse yelled out. Her heart skipped a beat at the sound of her name. She squeezed Michelle’s hand as she got up and made her way inside.
“So tell me if I have this right?” Michelle said as she tried to loosen the jam in the fax machine. “You found out he has a girl he calls you and apologizes and then next day he’s in your pants.”
