It is not a fake holiday it has been around from before greeting cards were invented. It has been celebrated from the time people grew flowers in their own garden and made their own candy.

If you were to boycott every product and every holiday that has an association with people being exploited you would walk around buck naked and never eat a bite. Are you boycotting all products with sugar? Why not the sugar cane workers in the Dominican Republic are being several exploited.

Do you wear running shoes? Have you seen the conditions in some of the factories in which children are used to make them for slave wages. Do you were clothes? Look at the scandals that pop up about the conditions in some of the factories. Joe Fresh - one of their factories caught on fire because of the horrible conditions and people died. The manufaturing continued and I believe the factory collapsed.

Canadian grocery giant Loblaw Companies Ltd. said Thursday that it will provide long-term financial assistance to the surviving victims and families affected by a deadly factory collapse in Bangladesh.The company said it “will begin providing long-term, direct financial compensation for the victims and their families that were producing our apparel at the New Wave Style factory in Rana Plaza,” one of five manufacturing plants in the Dhaka plaza that collapsed, killing more than 1,100 workers on April 24.
The factory produced clothing for Loblaw’s Joe Fresh clothing line.

So I take it you are walking around naked, freeze your butt off in winter and don't eat anything. Boycott all food and drinks with sugar.....certianly no fruits or vegetables given the way farm labourers are treated.

Why are you using a computer. Do you not see the horrible conditions in some of the factories where the components are manufactrued.

Chances are, too, that each was made in a factory in China. The reason for this is simple: workers are cheaper in most Eastern economies, and the saving made on labour greatly outweighs the expense of moving tankers full of products to the other side of the world.
In the past, when people have voiced ethical concerns surrounding technology, it’s typically been centred on environmental issues. Such issues, as we’ll see, are still relevant, but it’s increasingly the human consequences of manufacturing technology that are coming under the microscope.

Agreed; the history of Valentine's Day suggests it was a way for merchants to bridge the gap between Christmas and Easter. However, couples can decide to forego spending money and figure out other creative ways to celebrate the day. One doesn't have to spend what one doesn't have to make another person feel special. If one is under that kind of pressure, the relationship should be re-evaluated.
