Knicks point guard Raymond Felton arrested, charged with felony weapons possession
The 29-year-old was charged with two counts of felony possession for his ownership of an unregistered, armor-piercing firearm that he allegedly waved around, but never pointed at wife, Ariane Raymondo-Felton, who filed for divorce, allegedly fearful of the weapon being in their home.
Knicks guard Raymond Felton went from center court to criminal court after his Tuesday bust for keeping an illegal gun with armor-piercing ammo at his bedside, sources told the Daily News.
Felton was busted and handcuffed on felony weapons charges around 12:50 a.m. after surrendering at the 20th Precinct following the latest Knicks’ loss, the sources said.
Felton arrived after a lawyer for his estranged wife, Ariane Raymondo-Felton, brought cops the fully-loaded pistol — a Belgian-made FN Five-seveN — kept by the hoops star at their W. 63rd St. home, sources said.
The unregistered gun, usually kept in a bag in the couple’s bedroom, was filled with armor-piercing bullets, a source told the Daily News.
Cops were stunned when they removed the magazine from the pistol and a bullet fell out, indicating the weapon was ready to fire, the source said.
Felton would wave the weapon around when he became irate — although he never pointed it at his wife, the source close to the case indicated.
Raven-haired Ariana, 26, a Cornell University grad now studying at Fordham University law school, filed for divorce last week after just 19 months of marriage.
A police source said she was scared that the handgun was kept in the home.
“She had knowledge that the gun was there,” the source said. “She said she didn't want the gun there anymore.”
Felton, 29, was charged with two counts of felony possession of a firearm and an additional misdemeanor possession count, an NYPD spokesman said.
The arrest places Felton in the cross-hairs of New York City's strict gun possession laws.
In 2009, Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress was sentenced to two years in prison after accepting a plea deal after he accidentally shot himself in a Manhattan nightclub.
Felton, whose salary for 2013-14 is $3.6 million, is due in Manhattan Criminal Court in Manhattan later Tuesday morning.
