Seperated in terms of he/she is still married but not yet divorced. Him/Her's wife/husband is not living with them. In fact, they are not living in the same state or country.

plus even if them are in process of separating, the proceedings can get nasty and all of a sudden u find your [censored] part of the battle as the other woman even though u didnt come into the picture til long after they parted ways.

And in the end you're going to be looking like the homewrecking slut. ( not aimed at you Nylah) One aunt went through this, him and wife got back together and all of a sudden both of them ganged up on her. She didn't want to listen so she got it in the end.
