That is true...
I can only speak from my experience, so here goes...
We were both very clear that we did not want to get married. We did not believe that a piece of paper would make any difference. I was fine with it until Imanni was born...
I was determined for Imanni to have his father's name. And so he does... But I don't
For some reason I felt shame in this...
maybe it was old school values creaping in, or maybe it was just horomones, but it never went away
I don't know, everybody is different... just something to think about...
Serious tho, don't do it if you don't want to...
Try the parenting classes, you both might learn something

i know that what mortifies me the most about the kids...is the doing it alone thing. that is the one obsticle i just cant work around
as for the fact that i dont care for newborns
mi prefer dem when dem older (like highschool) 
or the constant nightmare that i will leave the kid somewhere or drop it
mi could work around that...wid some stiff drinks and some therapy.
ETA: Mi figget fi add the weight gain, the 6 week post delivery no sex rule, having to lose weight after having the baby thingy. the fact that i really dont do diapers (no for real, i dont).

All reasonable <span style="text-decoration: line-through">excuses</span>fears to not have a child but those feelings wear off once you hold that <span style="text-decoration: line-through">crumb snatcher</span> baby in your arms for the first time.Comment

Funny mi nuh have none a dem fears...I am not afraid of being a single mother...mi nuh fraid fi hole a newborn..change diapers...I dropped Sarah once in the doctor's office pon di baby scale likkle afta she jus bawn and she neva even seh feh...mi nuh fraid a weight gain, stretch mark (or battle scars as mi cawl dem)..di ongle ting was dat mi did fraid seh mi vaggy was gwen tear/stretch (no worries deh so
) and mi was dedding fi resume normal bedtivities during di 6 weeks
oh...and vomit, pee and poop woan faze yu aftah a while...

i don't think that if u have strong feelings against it that they gwine wear off just because u done give birth.
The first baby was a shock to my system...lawd the sleep deprivation, the breast feeding...think maybe i had a case of post partum blues after as well.
The first year of baby 1 is still just a blur
me did prepared fi di second one though..him neva catch me unprepared

kids are expensive if you want to give them expensive things. but they actually don't NEED it. a lot of childrearing these days though is making sure your children don't do without what other kids have (the gadgets, designer things) so yes, it can be expensive. other than that, basic food, clothing and shelter can be achieved with little additional cost, especially if you're in a country with free schooling. kids can find jobs when they get older for things they want.
IMO, economics is not a strong argument for not having kids.
single parenthood is more of a challenge, but ILP there's a built in assumption that your relationship won't last. maybe you should dig deeper into that fear. however, single parenthood can be made vastly easier by being on good terms with an ex.
i'm along the lines of boopie - are you willing to end your relationship with the current mi. ilp over the issue of having children?Comment
