Taping your sex acts: 'men speak out'
published: Monday | June 30, 2008
'Any recorded session should be between people who are in committed relationships, not for casual escapades.'
The subject of sex tapes is no new phenomenon, but in recent months, they seem to be taking Jamaica by storm with a few popular Jamaican personalities taking centrestage.
Flair addressed the topic in March, in the story, 'Sex tapes: do you have one?'. Since then, even more popular Jamaicans have been popping up on a screen near you. This time around, we left it all up to the men, asking them to voice their opinions on whether sex tapes are a go or a no?
Of the three men Flair spoke with, none said they had made a sex tape. However, they all believe that in the privacy of one's home, and if kept there, it's an opportunity to add some jazz to sex.
There should be a limit
While 38-year-old corporate executive, Charlie, finds nothing wrong with venturing into the video world, he believes there should be a limit. "If a girl wants to tape herself giving me (oral sex), that's fine but I wouldn't want her to tape me (having sex)." In the latter case, he said it's more than likely that they would be identified even if none of their faces were shown. A birthmark or body part could tell the whole story. He also reiterated that any recorded session should be between persons who are in committed relationships, not for casual escapades.
"Those are the ones that will sink you," he said, emphasising both relationship-wise and professionally.
Keep them private
He concurred that sex tapes are not new and probably won't stop anytime soon. But there should be some attempts to keep them private.
John, 28, said the same technology which allows people the freedom to make such videos, allows people to protect themselves. So, putting passwords on files is one of many ways to remain discreet.
But what if you had to date Kim Kardashian? Kardashian is the woman in a sex tape with musical artiste Ray J that was leaked to the public. Would you be fine dating the female lead in a sex tape which leaked?
"It depends on the rapport you have with the girl," said Joe, for whom it all depends on her personality and how interested he is in developing a relationship.
Savouring the moment
For John, it depends on the relationship she had with that person. "If it's with her boyfriend or her girlfriend," he said laughing, "Just to savour the moment," he said he has no problem. As long as it's not a companion she got involved with in a drunken stupor or a threesome with two men.
Charlie, however, would be uncomfortable taking her home to his parents or into his professional circles. "We are the biggest society of hypocrites," he said, explaining that a man puts his committed partner on a pedestal and she should be able to represent him proudly wherever they go.
