Lawd peeps when I say I don't know what to do... I tell ya, I really don't



Mi frien, whe mi know over 12 years has had a rough, rough year, and it look like it take it's toll fi true


She tried to commit suicide yesterday


She took a bunch of sleeping pills.


Today she seems ok, but who knows about tomorrow


Here is my problem...


Suicide makes me






I don't understand, and I don't handle it well


I just don't know how to talk to her, or help her...

I talked with an advice nurse at my insurance company after the suicide hotline led me to the county mental health, and I thought of the lady in New York


basically they gave me a crisis number and said to call 911 if I feel she is an immediate threat to herself


She lives nextdoor to me, and I feel like I should DO something, but I don't know what....


Any of unno deal with a suicide situation before?

is your friend on meds ? if not she may need some as well as talk therapy, but the situation is bigger than you can handle.

My opinion (an mi know the wise Ja.com psychiatrists agoh come seh mi wrong but) a suicide attempt is a cry for attention. If someone really want's to kill themself they will do it and be successful it won't be an attempt.

Like Gen seh your friend needs help that is beyond you. She needs counselling/therapy and probably medication.

Don't judge her....Just be a friend.



Yes mi know nuff people who have attempted sucide and some who where sucessful.


Personally I think it is a cowardly way out.......but that's just my opinion.

B,it sounds like your friend has some issues and is obviously calling out for help,she doesnt sound like she really want to kill herself,..she needs to talk to someone.

Yep! Just seeking attention. Not too many people who are serious about committing suicide has failed.

I agree that it is a selfish act and I also believe that people who are suicidal and really want to die, should be given some aid.

A few years ago I would have argued this point but the older I get the more I tend to agree with you. If someone's life is so painful to continue living is it wrong for them to want to end their own life and should they not be able to do it on their own terms with some assistance if required?

because quite often....feelings of suicide are temporary....due to feelings of overwhelming sadness....that are just TEMPORARY.

Exactly.

I find it strange that in every other situation, people are told &quot;it is your life, do what you want/believe&quot;, except when they try to take it.

What's worse is that those who are advocates (self-centered, fake lifesavers) for &quot;keeping them alive&quot; are nowhere to be found when they need the help to sustain.

Right, but I notice that those who are suffering from &quot;overwhelming sadness&quot; are the survivors.

Those who have had it with this life and need a permanent solution, hence, ready to move on, tend to succeed.

True in most cases but what about people who are constantly suffering from a serious disease or disorder where their is no relief. The suffering is not temporary but constant and permanent?

assisted suicide to the termanily ill is a vastly different scenario than what i think the topic starter was focusing on.

Yes in cases of feeling hopeless or sadness, suicide is not the answer, I agree. I was just trying to stretch the thread to include people with other reasons for wanting to take their own lives.

As far as the original post goes, I would tell your friend that if they ever find themselves at the &quot;brink&quot; again that they must promise to call you first, before they act. No matter what time of day or night. In return you make a promise to them that you will not judge them. I would venture to guess that if they could just talk to someone when those feelings arise it would make a world of difference.

wasn't gonna say anything.

BUT

she took sleeping pills in a bout to supposedly kill herself. no ambulance was called, no stomach pumping.

THEN

she told you about this attempted suicide?

not to be mean, but i doubt there was any attempt in the first place and she's one of those emotional vampires that thrive on making others their emotional footstools and guilty consciences.

i'm more concerned for you at this point Bandanna.
