Long Distance Relationships

Not the tourist kind, where all 'those' other issues emerge, but a relationship that is growing but a new job, for example forces distance between the two.

Anyone ever been in this situation? What are the pitfalls, and what helps to keep the connection?

Pitfall is out of site out of mind it is very hard to remain faithful in a LDr, mainly because it is so easy to lose trust and gain doubts.


keep the connection with frequent vists, msn , txt, calls, etc.

it really noh easy

Agreed! I know a couple who speak to each other more now that he's been assigned to a job away from home. They also use webcam a lot, I'll say no more on that

Well Me an ladySPeng were going good for about a year and she had to move away for college....it was definately hard...seeing as how the only time we spent was on the phone...I love my nitelife and I'm not a phone person...that created big problems...

a lot of arguments...a lot of mistrusts and doubts...a lot of false accusations...did I mention a lot of arguments? but we made it through...and its something that I definately value...but will NEVER EVER DO AGGEN!!!

It depends on why the two people are together in the first place. It shouldn't matter how long the distance, if the heart is right and the two are spiritually and emotionally connected.

If the relationship is solely tactile and based on being with the person on a physical level only, then there is no way under the sun, that will work.

My cousin had a long distant relationship for 3 plus years. She lived here in the UK and her partner lived in the US. She was old school so no computer or cell phone link up it was strictly landline. He'd call her 2 times a week and she'd call him two times a week.

I recall she would be excited and had rituals that she'd go through on the nights when they'd speak to each other. She'd arrive home from work, do the whole bathing, bath oils, soft lighting, candles, soft music thing- sitting with a glass of wine they used to talk for hours. Luckily no emergencies ensued during those days otherwise you'd ah fenneh ah wait fi har come arf ah di phone!

The only thing I recall her complaining about was the cost of the phone calls they'd chat for hours! and her bills were <span style="font-weight: bold">HIGH</span>

But she treated almost every call over those years as a date and and prepare herself accordingly. She did that for 3 or more years. Anyway, they've been married for more than 12 years now so it worked for them.

Its a up hill battle all the way..its not for everyone.
