You introduced physical abuse <span style="font-style: italic">after</span> the convo started. Just to make sure you are not putting words in my mouth, my argument is this:

1) If a man is not getting any, he should check with his spouse to find out what the problem is. The lady could have a legitimate concern, and if the man tries to ingore or make light of it, she's gonna shut him out. As I understand it, as long as she's not happy emotionally, mentally, or otherwise, her heart can't be into the action even if she goes through the motions. IMO, that's ugly.

2) If the man ignores how she feels, and try to 'pressure' her to give him some, IMO, he's being abusive.

Now we have that out of the way, let me jump in on something else. Witholding sex - regardless of who does it - <span style="font-style: italic">can</span> be about power, but not necessarily. IMO, to insist that it is, reduces the person with the concern to a mere sex object. No man worth his salt should feel satisfied if he can ignore his spouse's feelings and treat her like a sperm depository. If what she offered didn't flow from her being, he would have been better off flying solo or go rub up on a tree.

Physical abuse has no place in a relationship, so outside of the abused person getting help to get out of it, the issue of sex - more like rape, actually - in such a relationship is difficult to address. Violence is always about power. That is a whole different set of dynamics that cannot be compared to situations that are non-violent and in which there is a strong difference in opinion on whatever the issue(s) might be, and which may provoke enough concern to cause one partner to disengage from sexual activity.
