Re: Is It True?
of course anyone you have loved will always have a piece of your heart but that just isnt the same as loving them the way I originally loved them. I can wish someone well but that doesnt mean I still have some "love" for them. Not everyone I choose to love deserved to be loved in the first place.

I guess reciprocity is the key then!
But seriously, true love implies that it is right and righteous, and if that is the case, why would two ppl part?.....if it is true love.
If it is love, but not "true" then I can see changing or devolving.
So, the romantic in me says if you experience true love, you all would never part.

you know I started to type an answer and then realized the words I was using wasnt getting at the heart of what I mean.
I'll say this, the one word that keeps popping into my mind when I think of "true love", is the word Honest. It is honest not in one direction with only one person feeling it, but both feel it.
Now, you can ask me what do I mean by the word Honest cause lord knows that could encapsulate a bunch of different meanings as well
What is your definition of the word?

Hard to define, huh?

I don't think of love in a "romantic sense", primarily because I have a very logical/analytical mind. The best definition I stick with is one I came across some years ago: <span style="font-style: italic">wanting what is best for the other person even if that best does not include me.</span> I believe that within that desire one finds all the other positive attributes that makes for a <span style="font-style: italic">potentially</span> meaningful relationship.
<span style="font-weight: bold">ETA:</span> That definition's greatest appeal for me is that it is not selfish. That we "truly love" someone doesn't always mean we are what's best for them, and vice versa.aka ChurchDude. I want that moniker back! Until then....

<span style="font-style: italic"> </span> <span style="font-style: italic">"you never really stop loving someone you just learn to <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> <span style="font-weight: bold">try</span> <span style="font-weight: bold"> </span> to live without them" <span style="font-style: italic"> </span> <span style="font-style: italic"> </span> </span>.
I believe romantic love can and does die. A love for a deceased love one is different - you do try and hopefully are successful in living withouth them.
One could be romantically in love with someone then tolerate them later. Once could love a friend but when things go wrong, that love could quickly turn into other unpleasant emotions.
When you love someone in the romantic sense, most times it's their "perceived" character you are in love with. If that perception is not reality, then yes, that love will go out the window with the fairy tale character.
True love will never die? In my experience that is not true.

Well, arent you a stick in the mud!
I agree with you that true love isnt selfish at its essence but if you feel "That we "truly love" someone doesn't always mean we are what's best for them, and vice versa." then you lose the reciprocity that I think needs to exist for true love to be present. But it too late in the night for me to get into an existential discussion at the moment
My one true love - my bed is calling - so good night until the morning
