I always say it may 2 years or 5 years, but no matter how it ended I've always kept my past lovers / boyfriends / husband as my friend, at some time. I wouldn't / couldn't have loved them so deeply and then one thing just mash up all of those feelings. Not to say I didn't hurt and cry and feel like sh**, but in the end I always seem to manage to make friends with them again. Ask any of them, I always say, give me a couple of years, then everything will be criss.

I think you hit on something right there. It can sometimes take some time for you to leave things behind you to focus back on being their friend. But nuff times they feel you should be able to get to this point right away.
