Single Sistahs - What's Going On?

OK. But for people in their 50s, I have not found this to be true (although maybe it is).

Maybe is just true for Atl? or hiking in Atlanta? me see match.com sponsor a hike, bout 3 man show up...to 20 or so women (me was doing a hike with a friend and just happen to see a guy i know leading that hike..i wasn't there with them)

on several of my group hiking expeditions me have several women asking me "where are all the men"...and tell me their tales of woe.

the men i talk to admit that whole heap a women out there to choose from..but have various reasons as to why them not currently in a relationship or married (maybe one of the reasons is that them have whole heap a women to choose from)

Why aren't there available over 35 year-old brothas?

This has not been my experience. Caveats: I am a widow in her 50s. I have dated only a few men. I therefore accept that my experience is not a trend and I cannot speak to society as a whole.

I have gone on dates with really lovely black men in my age group. They seem to prefer to date women close to their age who care about their health, who are active, sociable, open-minded, financially independent, adventurous, and self-confident. I happen to appreciate somewhat similar traits in single men my age or older.

aah but my small sample size tell me someting though....the single man are ok with being single and not looking woman. Them admit to there being a "plethora" ( i like that word :d) of women to choose from . Two of them tell me that there's quantity of women but not quality. I rolled my eyes at them...but then tried to look like i believed them as they went on to tell me bout all all them crazy ex girlfriends.

where they should meet them? they try to meet them thru other avenues as well...this is just one. But since I not at the club, this is where i get to hear the stories.

(you would be suprised at how many black guys turn up for the hike sometimes...but most times older guys are with wife or girlfriends- this is an African-American hiking club )

Technology's changing the way we deal with each other.

I remember the long ago days when people spoke to one another on the road. Well man dem woulda churpse sistahs. Nowadays, so many peeps have ear plugs in. Kinda difficult to communicate.

Also, people stay at home for entertainment with the 50-inch tv, cinema style surround sound audio, downloaded music and easy online access to 1000s of movies. Damn, people nuh haffi get outta bed or offa di sofa to date wid all dese online dating sites dat come like choosing a pair ah shoes.

Hmmmm... where to meet.

What are these 'high' expectations? Do so many brothas really lack ambition in comparison to sistahs?

I don't mean to paint all with one brush. There are to many layers to "peel" off in this discussion as each case is different. It seems there are more black women graduating from college than black males. Finding a black male of the same education level will probably be difficult if that is the expectation. In terms of role models some black males don't have a father to emulate and push them to a higher standard. I am not saying this is the case for everyone but it is a factor.

In regards to ladies finding single males. Maybe the way the "sistahs" are seeking is limited. The world has changed and either sex can make the first move. If sistahs you are seeking in the same place all the ladies are seeking, whether it be club, concert, church or a dating website the competition is stiff. Why not fish somewhere else. Go where men go and most women will not. Example a sporting events, domino tournament etc...
