So I was talking with a friend who is in his 2nd year of marriage, and he mentions that he does NOT know how much his wife takes home per pay period. The issue came up because he was angry at the fact that his niece's boyfriend has her account for every penny of her paycheck.

Of course boyfriend is taking it wayy to far, but friend had me concerned. How could he not know? Dont they file taxes? He said h has a general idea of hr salary, but no specifics.

Do you know how much your SO makes?

I know how much he makes and he, me.

However, I don't know, <span style="font-style: italic">down to the penny</span>, how much money he <span style="font-style: italic">has</span> and neither does he me.

yes i do....every penny of it is deposited in our JOINT bank account....his check stub comes in the mail bi-weekly.

the question is...

does HE know how much he makes?

it is rather weird if married people nuh know how much each other make. not weird to if they don't know down to the penny what each other's net worth is(especially if is a blended family with prior children)

then again maybe they filed separate tax returns dear k.

Why was HE angry at the fact that his niece's boyfriend has her account for every penny of her paycheck. Does he think the boyfriend is controlling as I think he is?

In our home we know how much each other makes as it goes into the same account and we communicate about money, investments and bills.

That makes some sense. Are you talking about family wealth, or finances/income before marriage? Or are you referring more to daily dollars on hand?

I guess you control the purse and he relies on YOU to know! Does he know or care about your income?

Quite controlling! Thats what started the discussion- the boyriend is extremely jealous, and even scrolls through her phone, mail etc. So while he was explaining niece;s situation, he reported on his own ignorance about wife's account. This is a blue collar/exec union, so she makes mroe, but still! Shouldnt he know?
