A LOVE-STRUCK woman spent £1,000 recreating a shot from her boyfriend’s favourite film – only to find out he had never seen the movie.
Office worker Lesley Heague, 25, decided to act out the famous rose petal scene from Oscar-winning blockbuster American Beauty for boyfriend Luke Scrase's Valentine’s Day card.
Lesley splashed out £695 on a penthouse suite in the plush Vincent Hotel, in Southport, Merseyside, to set the scene for her saucy stunt.
But the gorgeous blonde was left spitting rose-petals when she discovered her beau’s favourite film was actually Denzel Washington’s 2008 crime thriller AMERICAN GANGSTER.
Lesley said: “I’ve been with Luke for less than a year and this is our first Valentine’s and I thought I’d do something really special.
“We were out for a few drinks and he mentioned I should buy him a DVD for his Valentine’s present.
“I was sure he said he was a big fan of American Beauty, so I thought I’d go the whole hog and set up a themed weekend.
“I've booked a lovely room at a posh hotel and ordered the petals from two dozen red roses to be strewn on the bed and in the bathroom.
“I also forked-out for a photographer to take pictures of me in the famous scene covered in rose petals for a personalised Valentine’s card.
“Even if I say so myself, it looks brilliant.
“I was so pleased with it all and mentioned to his Luke’s best friend what I’ve got planned for him, only to be told that he has never seen American Beauty.
“It turns out his favourite film is American Gangster and that is the DVD he wanted. I must have misheard what he said. It was after I’d had a couple of drinks.
“I was stunned but I don’t want the weekend to go to waste so we’re doing it anyway.
“I’ve got the DVDs of American Beauty and American Gangster to show him at the hotel... if we ever get round to turning the TV on.”
Boyfriend Luke, 21, added: “What Lesley has done is really great and I’m planning to have the pictures framed from her Valentine’s card.
“American Gangster is a great film. I’ve no idea what American Beauty is about but it won a few Oscars so it must be worth watching.”
A spokesperson for the Vincent Hotel said: “Miss Heague’s idea of dressing a room with rose petals is a first for us. “But we like to oblige any reasonable requests so we are happy to make these arrangements and I am sure her Valentine’s weekend with us will be very memorable.“
