This I agree with. The challenge is finding men or women mature enough and secure enough in who they are to execute this. Like the old beleif that only men should handle finances....well as a woman I am far better at it than Mr Man cause that is what I do for a living but I have had guys say to me if we are married they would run the bills and they couldnt even add 2 plus 2 without a calculator I'm like hell nah I do this stuff in my sleep and I am gonna turn it over to someone with less skill JUST BECAUSE you are a man?

Use my strengths to benefit yourself and I'll use your strengths to benefit myself and we will move forward TOGETHER.....hard concept for *some* to grasp.

no sugarplum, i'm not speaking of any kinda violence or abuse. of course it goes without sayin, those things are not acceptable.

And in spite of blu only wishing to address this question to Black people, this has nothing to do with race; it concerns all human beings. It transcends race. Nor am i speaking about 'feminism'.

what i'm speaking about is the balance of power in a relationship between any two grown people.

while man and woman certainly are different in their skills and physical abilities; i'm speaking here of the emotional power-balance. As far as I am concerned, in a marriage both partners have equal power, equal say-so, and <span style="font-style: italic">share</span> responsibilities and decision-making.

I believe that a healthy relationship does not require that one person 'rules' and the other 'submits'. That's the kind of dynamics that exist in a relationship of a parent towards a child, with one exerting 'authority' over the other. That's not a balanced relationship of two grown people making a home together. I believe each one brings their own strengths and skills, and are partners in running things. One person is not superior to the other, and therefore neither one is 'the boss' over the other.

to me a man of true strength is the one who appreciates (and does not feel his 'manlieness' is threatened by) a smart strong woman who can stand side-by-side in the relationship, sharing decisions and input into creating their life together.

Conversely, I feel that a man who wants to rule a woman and have her submit to him, is insecure and weak on his inside. A person like that is unsure of his own strength, and can only make himself feel big by making others feel small- keeping his woman 'under his thumb', so to speak, to 'prove' how big and powerful he is. Feh.

I gladly love &amp; respect, support, big up, share, communicate, negotiate, and input my strengths and skills and smarts, in partnership with a man who does the same, in order to create the absolute best life for both of us and we family.

But I 'submit' to no one... i'm not a child and my man is not 'my daddy'.
