I think for some people regarding the issue and how dem respond to it have to do with timing and how the other smaddy ask dem

mi nuh see nuh need fi bringle, either dem agree or disagree to get one and then move on to the next point

See it dere.. you just fell right into the same thing I said originally . No yuh nat rich but suppose yuh buy a modest home together..married for 15 years and accumulate monetary and others assests together ..have 3 kids ...den marrige get sour... then what?

Now let's play devil's advocate further ..Now deres is fighting an im waan fight yuh ova di custody of di pickney dem.. im waan di house cause a im maybe the one that put up more a di money an im a run yuh out.. I could go on and on. That kind a stuff mi a talk bout.

Would you then wish there was a prenup to draw up on to settle things?

My not rich comment was to make sure that no one reading my comment thinks either one of us is rich NOW!

either way, I hear you Wendy hence why the subject was touched on. Here unless both names are put on a title man or woman can walk away with the house and not have to share proceeds with the spouse. If both your names on it, it isnt so easy to run the next person without a court order like abuse against them.

Have a client in this situation right now. His wife wants him to leave although she has never worked a day in her life (although she is educated with a PhD) All that they own is due to his earning power as an engineer.

Both names are on the title and unless a judge rules against him, she cant force him to leave. So he has to make sure he doesnt fight with her in the house so she can claim abuse.

so maybe I perspective is shaped by what is allowed in my region.

I would want some tentative things agreed upon just in case though.

Yes, or to have certain assets - inherited land in JA for instant covered. It can go my kids on death but not to a spouse upon divorce.

I was nodding my head in agreement as I read...Same thing here ..once the title is in both names you cant simple put the other out.
