Cross Cultural Relationship

is that the same as "bi-racial or "interracial"? I was having a light hearted discussion about cultural differences with 2 people who described their marriages as "cross cultural"

one person is caucasian french married to a brazilean (don't know ethnic background), the other malaysian chinese married to ukrainean (sp).

if it not related to race, then i guess it cross culral. 2 white ppl, blond blue-yeye, coulda marrid= one fra Norway an one fra Columbia- 2 totally diff culture. Neva hear the term used b4, but it mek sense yes

funny u raise this, mi jus wassa talk to this lady fra s. america- dunno which latin country, and she marrid a man from Holland. Mi coulda bayly undastand wah di ooman a talk bout- to how har accent thick- so i dont know how di hell dey communicate. She say nobody inna har house nuh talk espanish Mi tink di ppl dem just put har pan ignore and carry on!

I can date someone from a different region of my own country and have cultural differences so I don't think it is a big deal. Every relationship has its challenges even if you date the boy next door.


Dating someone from another country has rarely been an issue for me. I guess it depends on the people involved and what makes you feel comfortable. The ones I tend stay away from are those who were raised in polygamous environments because even though they try to say everything I want to hear in the beginning, eventually their upbringing causes me problems with how they truly feel about a woman's role.

You know often there are more similarities than differences.

I once had a friend from Kathmandu. We attempted dating but I was not attracted to him and he was not attracted to me. Aside from other reasons that we were compatible, I think we remained friends because he would scratch my hair and I would scratch his. Who would have thunk it?

this is what I thought at first..but one of the people using the term wa malayasian chinese married to caucasian ukrainean..I'm starting to think it may be a term used by people not from the states..

wasn't saying it was a big deal just chuckling at some of the differences..for instance the french chap said (being French) he liked his meat on the raw side..brazilean wifey liked it more on the overcooked side

then there was the time he introduced wifey to his mom for the first time and he told his mom to serve horse meat..and told wifey it was horsemeat just before she started eating...wicked wicked man

do people other than blacks and whites think in terms of race? the asians I know differentiate themselves by culture even when they come from different countries or country of origin I am confusing myself.

You have brought up a good point. Food can be a big deal, and I like food from different regions. HOWEVER...

I will never forget the first time this man made some egussi soup. So first of all, I ask what's in it and then say I don't really have the taste for no seed soup. He insisted I taste it and it was very, very good.

Next up was the fufu on a platter, and we supposed to scoop it up with our bare hands and dip out some soup. That is where I had to draw the line.

Say wha, it tastes good but I'm going to need my own bowl with my own fufu and some of this soup on top and a spoon. He laughed, accommodated my request but I really knew right then that there was a cultural bridge that could not be crossed. And then bout 5 more friends showed up and I'm not even sure all of them washed their hands.

I could never be OK with that and eventually would say it and no doubt offend them if I had to let it bubble up and spill out.

I don't know. I mean we (my culture anyway) has a color for everybody - black, white, yellow, red, brown. I think they might not look at it the same way but do have some words to use for appearance.


Let's take the word &quot;moors&quot; for example. I never had any confusion about exactly what it meant.
