My loving and well meaning girlfriends say when we talk about the newness of a potential love affair. My mother ( who suffered her share of hurt) used to say the same.
My question is....is their some anti- getting hurt spray that I do not know about?? Some armor perhaps, some liquid I can drink that will keep me from loving, caring too much???
I think I am missing something. If a person could AVOID getting hurt, I am sure they would, the only way I know, sure fire, is just stay home alone with my dogs and not try to engage in love at all.

nope. IMHO, you r right - the only way to do that is to not engage atall. but shutting oneself off to avoid pain also shuts oneself off from the possibility of having the joy.... telling someone 'just don't get hurt', IMHO is really them showing that they care about you,
- but it doesn't have much practical meaning. cause of course if it was up to us, of COURSE we would not move in a way to get weselves hurt.
