I just got off the phone all morning with a friend that is in crisis. The crisis actually started a week or so ago. She was recruited from JA on the teachers program several years ago on a H1 Visa. She told me that she was headed to JA on April 18th to get her visa renewed by the embassy there. She thought of this a simple routine as she was instructed by her attorney to get this done so they can proceed with getting her into Permanent residency status.
She called me last week to tell me they did not approve her renewal citing problems with the company she is with. They explained to her that they have to investigate the company because they are seeing too many inconsistencies. She told the lawyer what happened and she thinking they were on the job sat in JA waiting to hear from them and what to do next. Three days later she called again and was told that an email was sent to her demanding $5,000.00 for them to start filing her appeal. Now this chick is in JA with no access to email and they are sending her emails when they had a number to call. She explained she does not have $5000.00 and the company is at fault and not her…she didn’t think it’s fair for her to be paying this fee.
The company also argued with her saying their hands are tied and she have to fork over the $5,000 before they can even begin to call the embassy. I have been working with her being sorta liaison with emails etc for the last couple days and she is breaking down badly because these people seemed to be hell bent in making her stay trapped in JA until the money get to them.
I cannot believe this is happening ..I knew attorneys could be slime balls but this is the lowest of low. She is breaking down every time she calls me.. I know she wants to ask me for financial help and don’t know how to ask .. but believe me if I had it she wouldn’t have to ask. I am sooo freaking helpless and sad right now because I can’t help with that 5 gran .. and I know that her job here in the states is in jeopardy.

I am going to call her back and see if she can let the school she works for step in and try to apply through them .. they like the work she does so maybe they would consider that. Man it's good to talk to people sometime. Thanks
