Yutes not hearing dat doah. In the US, 22% of black men who marry choose a non-black wife vs. 5% of black brides having a non-black husband. I suspect that Canada probably has a wider gap putting it between the UK and the US.

I don't know of their dating history (which was here in Canada) but I do know that my white mother was welcomed with open arms in Jamaica, not because of the colour of her skin but because of her personality and out look on life.

However, having said that.....

Parents need to inform and warn their children about certain types of people, male and female regardless of skin colour.

Sorry, Tanya, no offense or hurt is intended to you or any individual on this board.

However, regardless of your own personal experience, there are increasingly large minorities of black men in the UK, US, and Canada who think and openly state that non-black women make better girlfriends/wifie/spouses. That is an offense and insult to black women. How anyone can cheer that - explicitly or implicitly - is beyond me. Is that supposed to be a good thing?

If we reframe this as: Non-black men are far less likely to marry Black women than non-black women are to marry Black men, the question then becomes: who is really doing the choosing in these situations ? Are white men underrepresented in Black-white relationships because they would rather choose not to <span style="font-style: italic">marry</span> Black women or is it that Black women are just less interested in marrying them ?

I'm really only interested in the reasons for (what I perceive as) self-loathing than whether or not white men/black women marry each other. I'd even say that the rate of WM/BM marriages is quite high already.

<span style="font-weight: bold">22-48% of black men</span> turning up their noses at black women as marriage partners is a staggeringly high &quot;rejection rate&quot;. No other groups besides Asian women in mixed unions come close to the same levels of disparity (and that is specific to the US).

- Is it self-hate?
- If it isn't self-hate, then what is it?
- Why is the tendency the same in all three countries (as opposed to other ethnic groups)?
