Can you be friends with someone who has opposite beliefs?

I have a co-worker that I get along with quite well BUT......

She is American from down south and white (nutting noh wrong wid dat)

HOWEVER she is a Staunch republican. Anti socialised anyting. Anti Obama

An example ...the other day there was an article in the paper about how the city was offering free spay/neuter for low income pet owners. Shi goh pan one hellarant bout how tax payers money a pay fi dis an ray ray ray.

When mi explain to her that it is cheaper in the long run as tax payers money pays for the care an keep or destruction of the unwanted pets from those same un-fixed animals. Shi juss walk weh.

shi forever a complain bout wi "free healthcare" and is always the first to point out that it is not free it is tax payer funded. Yet shi quick fi tek advantage of di freeniss shi would NEVER be able to afford were she living in the USofA.

As long as wi conversation noh touch on religion or politics we cool an get along very well.....

What do you think???

Wonder if you were to point out to her that if she was in the USofA she would never be able to enjoy the freness there that she enjoy here I wonder what would be her response, attitude

Seeing that you work with her and want to continue to get along with her just let her know you have different beliefs about religion and politrix,so it's better if you both do not discuss it.

she sound very opinionated, do not think I could get along with her.....me personally would just talk to her bout work and ignore her the rest of time.....but then me rude that way

Also I have something carved in stone!! if we work together we not friends we coworkers/boss/employee....what I mean is after work that is it.I do not socialize and ting outside of work with you.

edited to add the reason I say she opinionated is when you pointed out to her that it is cheaper for taxpayers money to spay the animals now than later she didn't even respond with ohhhh that right yu know shi jusss walk wey. Not gwine admit that she wrong.

political beliefs dont always measure the person's core values- There are many marriages of Dems and Reps. There is nothing wrong with good healthy discussion- to explore how someone else thinks, but if you find it becoming more heated, tehn maybe you both will decide to not broach certain subjects.... ever

that pet discussion is very interesting- you'd probably get very different feedback if it were posted in the pet forum, or general discussion. My point is that some people are pet people and some arent- the response she gave to that specific issue might have less to do with politics, and more to do w/ not valuing pets.

anyhow mi know one woman from the US that married and live here in Canada
she is all anti Obama
she is always at the doctor cause something or other is wrong with her
she is against free health care in the US
she rants all the time on fb about how bad Obama and the democrats are
