What should he do?

I received this text from someone asking my advice. What would you say to him?

"where i work i was given a gift by a young student, she 's about 23. its an expensive gift. my other half think i should give it back because the student is in love with me. what should i do? she gave it to me because i always encourage her."

Sounds like the gift is "sentimental" by him saying its expensive. This may cause some trubble and tension if he does not give it back.

He also has to set boundaries and if he acceps it, that student/teacher boundary has been crossed

He should give it back adding something like, "When you are a teacher like me who have helped hundreds of students over the years, it is always nice when someone stops to thank you in a meaningful way. Your gift is lovely but I cannot accept it. I am only doing my job, after all. You may show your appreciation in other ways, such as contributing towards the ABC University's Building Fund."

It looks like he accepts quite a few gifts from time to time. Before hearing that, I told him to give it back to keep peace and harmony in his marriage. He mentioned that his wife is very jealousy and that nothing pleases her. From the conversation, it appears that the folks giving the gifts are all females and that would explain one of the reasons why the wife is jealous.

At the end of the conversation, he did agree to give the gift back. We shall see.

True. What is he thinking taking gifts from his (I assume his) student?

Down this way at the uber private schools it's common for teachers to get uber expensive gifts from parents ( but all the parents give gifts) but is not like none a dem interested inna the teachers &quot;that way&quot;.... More of the norm.
