Well, I may have made a mistake, but he is so happy I can't go back on it now.
We have a rec room in our basement. A few months ago I caved in and told Red he could make that his own space. In a weeks time he dismantled the fireplace mantle, took down all of the paintings and wall hanging, and removed every single piece of furniture except for the couch. TV dinner tables popped up in place of a coffee table and an LCD TV soon adorned the walls.
Once he had the TV and the couch, there was no more progress made on the decorating side. Don't get me wrong, he has new paint to put on the walls, painting and drawings that he has done to compliment whatever his design scheme is, but none of it has materialized in the room.
Instead, he has spent months gathering the equipment for his home theatre. Mind you, this is a 500 sq foot room, but he has been determined to get surround sound for the room. He has an entertainment center in a box, waiting to be assembled, he has speaker shelves and brackets for the wall, and all these gadgets to hide wires inside the wall. Boxes of hardware are all over the rec room floor.
Yesterday, as part of his Christmas gift, I bought Red the receiver he has had his eye on, the last piece needed to finish the surround sound system. I left him in the basement to work on the room while I went out to dinner with my sister. Hours later I returned home to find a tornado in the basement. Rather than set everything up nice and neat, Red has assembled the home theatre system on a trial basis. He wants to test it out before he makes it permanent. There are boxes and Styrofoam everywhere. There are wires running across the floor in every direction, he is buried under the couch doing good knows what and doesn’t hear me descend the steps into the basement. I see the mess and quickly return upstairs.
Moments later he is calling out my name. He is about to turn the system on for the first time and he wants me to experience it with him. The look on his face was so priceless I couldn’t refuse. I broke out the camera and well…
