She is the first female Jamaican Ambassador to the United States, appointed to the office in July 2010. She is the founder of Paymaster (Jamaica) Limited, the first multitransaction agency in the Caribbean. She is the first female president of the American Chamber of Commerce of Jamaica.

(Silver Spring, Md) Adventist Risk Management, Inc., (ARM) announced today the appointment of Andrea Ashman as director of Human Resources for the organization. Ashman replaces Dorothy Redmon who retired from ARM on November 1, 2009. “We are excited about her willingness to serve ARM in this capacity,” says, Mike Jamieson, ARM vice president. “She has already demonstrated her love for the Lord, His work, and our employees. We look forward to her leadership as we seek to continue serving with excellence.”

Ashman joined ARM in 2008 as administrative assistant to the president with additional responsibilities in assisting the HR department. Prior to joining ARM, Ashman worked in banking and finance as an HR Assistant and Budget Control Supervisor. She was also Secretary to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the Jamaica government.

A native of Jamaica, Ashman has a Bachelors degree in Business Administration from University of Technology in Jamaica, and a diploma in Management Studies from the Jamaican Institute of Management.

You've seen her on television and heard her on late night (and occasionally daytime) radio, but do you know what Emily Crooks would grab if her house were on fire? She talks to reporter Nordia Henry about her favourite things...

SLENDER AND prettier than she appears on television, Bahamian-born Emily Crooks is not what you'd expect in person. Face-to-face, she's down to earth and friendly, contrary to her tough approach on TVJ's interview programme 'Exposure'.

Crooks, the youngest in a family of four children, attended Grange Basic School in Westmoreland when her parents returned to Jamaica from the Bahamas. The school, she recalls, was called Cowpen Basic School, although she's at a loss to explain why. She later attended Williamsfield All-Age and Mannings High School in Savanna-la-Mar before studying linguistics at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona.

The 28-year-old is definitely a woman on the go. The single mother of a two-and-a-half-year-old son, hosts 'Exposure' Sundays between noon and 1:00 p.m., lectures on African Philosophy at UWI, and several times a week hosts RJR's late night talk show 'Tell Me About It'. She has also been know to sit in as host of RJR's Hotline and co-host of '5 to 7 Live'.

Still, there's more to life than work and Crooks says she loves dancing and spending time with her son and other special people. She adds that she enjoys any game. &quot;I could give any guy a good game of football and win&quot;, she brags.

MY COMPUTER GADGETS

Crooks says that her computer gadgets are the only material possessions she could think of grabbing -- a Compact Tablet Personal Computer (PC) and a Pocket PC. These are her favourite things because they are what she works with.

My computer... is a part of my life now. It contains all my research. It has all that I'm involved with at TVJ. It is a compilation of everything that I've done.

My Pocket PC... is where I keep my appointments, calendar, contacts and, most importantly, recordings about my son -- like when he started talking.

I listen to him counting in Spanish, get feisty and say all the humorous things children say. It has everything that I have ever done in life. It's history, it's also immediate and it's future as well.

The wife of Washington, D.C. mayor Adrian Fenty, who has served in office for nearly three years, Mrs. Fenty was born and raised in London, the daughter of Jamaican immigrants, before moving to New York City with her family at age 18. She says she never envisioned herself as D.C's first lady when she met her future husband at Howard Law School in 1994.

June Jordan was a Jamaican-born, American poet, author, educator and activist. She is famous for her work in literature, covering topics relating to race, gender and equality. The June Jordan School For Equity in California is named in her honor.

Sanya Richards was born in Jamaica in 1985, but moved to Florida with her parents in 1997. She became a U.S. citizen in 2002 and has been representing that country internationally since. She has won two Olympic Gold medals- 2004 and 2008 - in the Women's 4x400 relays. She won the gold medal in the 400 metres at this year's IAAF World Athletic Championships in Berlin.
