long distance relationships...

Is it the norm for one or both parties to give up because of the distance?

I'm asking as a friend of mine broke up a long distance relationship. He said it was the distance and not the woman. She was not willing to relocate to him. The thought of leaving her tight knit family and job for the USA was not her option. He did not see himself moving to her and wanted her here. He said he missed not having the physical interaction... waking up beside someone... watching tv together, those sort of things. Confided that he met someone else (just 2 weeks now) but still have strong feelings for his LDR partner...said he misses her and the new woman he met does not look as good as she does. Not sure bout new woman he said...just in it for the sex. He and LDR partner agreed to remain friends... for him she was a good and kind woman and still is the best woman he met.

I asked him then why would they break it up. Sounds like they had options...at least they met few times out of a year for couple weeks. People are so fickle but what do I know about long distance relationships anyways. He was sad though... I personally thought they were going to get married by middle of next year.

hard to be in a LDR, especially one where there's no plan to eventually live in the same place.

yup yup but at least he was man enough to end it with the LDR before he moved on to new poon unlike some people

He wants to *be* with her, not talk on the phone, or wait for w/ends etc. He should be applauded for knowing what he wants, and making it known. Do you think they remain 'friends' because they'll eventually end up together?

Mi can tell yuh fi a fact dat mi is not the LDR type. Mi can only do that but for so long and after such time something or someone has to give.

One thing I have noticed a lot with LDRs though, is that the men tend to be the ones who want the woman to uproot themselves to be with them. If that is feasible for the woman, that's fine but more often, men don't take the initiative to make that "leap." Why is that?

I agree with you. Being in an LDR relationship must be very taxing. I can hardly wait for my partner to return from a business trip much less.

Mental, Social, Political, Scientific, Psychological and many other evidence has shown that MEN are inherently selfish. They want more than they are willing to give and the lack of accepting that is what (I believe) drives the increase of frustation in many women. IMO, as soon as women become unwilling to cater to/accept/embrace that side of a man's character, he cuts the cord. Period. The End!
