I think nowadays alot of us women have our guards up when it comes to relying on a man 100%. It's too easy to get abused in that situation. Then there is the issue with boredom.

I am absolutely terrified of putting my well-being in the hands of someone else. I left home when I was 17 and I have been taking care of myself since.I guess thats why I put off getting married for sooo long I have trust issues. It's been a little over a year that I made that choice, and still have mixed feelings....somedays it's great and somedays I'm bored and miss the office culture...

I have tried to remedy the boredom by emersing myself totally in our home business

I am still stuggling with it though....one example....I wanted to by someting really expensive and totally uncalled for for my brother and had to think twice because the money I was going to use was not earned directly by me......and although he would not have asked what I did with the money, I decided against it...but was ticked at myself for a week because I had did not have my own money [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif[/img]

Thanks to everyone who responded. It's good reading the pros and mostly cons. Someone mentioned working all their life and would welcome the chance to get a break. I'm having the same thoughts. Personally I'm tired and although I have many many more working years left I don't think I would mind staying home for a while. Obviously that only makes sense if I don't have to work.

I'm not sure if I could if I could stay home all day without having "something" to do though. Whether it be my own thing or volunteering.

I think you mean being dependent on husband/partner financially... yes? What was the woman doing with her finances during her "extremely independent and hard working life"?? If your life savings got blown up through some white-collar theft then it would be difficult to adjust...working hard, being independent then !poof! all the $$$ gone and now have to dependent on the man. Yes, it would be difficult and hard to adjust.

Maybe I'm not getting the correlation between "being extremely independent hard-worker" to being dependent on the man.

This is not true.

I am home (granted minding the kids &amp; my mom) and I manage the home expenses (budget), he the investments, and I don't ask for a thing other than for items over a certain $$. Before we married we agreed on a set $$ to ask permission before spending and that agreement is still in effect. The key is understanding what is in the budget and as long as you are meeting the budget it should be no problem.

Communication &amp; trust is key to make a relationship like this work.
