Thanks Skellion for that explanation. I do disagree however that one has to play the devil's advocate in order to get a healthy debate.

In my opinion, if one is knowledgeable on a subject, one's purpose should be to impart that knowledge so that others can actively debate for or against the established topic.

Sitting on the fence only confuses the issue and makes the initiator of the topic appear dubious.

Quietly stepping away from the debate table.
