So my DC is on her last (and when mi say har last...mi mean LAST) chance wid di Dean of our college. When summer session was to plan...mi boss ask mi and one next teacher (who basically mimics my schedule..except she deal with Freshman...I deal wid upper levels) to run the summer offerings for our dept. My DC basically beg wi to do everything, schedule, course catalogue things, budget, book store coordination, etc. as she said, "I cant do summer session and have everything in place for Fall...Please "

Before mi go sign on di dotted line mi mek sure to go over my roles, responsibilities, parameters. Mi all tell har what mi was gonna do and not do and mek sure mi put it on di line, as to avoid misunderstandings. Mi DC say fine.

Mi and and di next teacher attend meeting, plan, promote, schedule, hire people, do everyting....here come dis ole hag...

Two weeks ago she call mi boss ask if she can get some student to register for the course. She mek promise to "do favour" for some loser kid...promising mind you what she nuh know if she can do. So mi boss tell har come ask mi.

She never ask...she call me and <span style="text-decoration: underline">tell</span> mi di kid &quot;need help registering. Can you take care of that?&quot; So mi tell har di kid need fi follow what every other kid does to register for a class. If im cyan register is cah im not eligible. Eidah im nu have di prereq course or im owe di school money. She done...done...done...done...di issue (not wid me of course) and di boy register. Mi left that, as di kid neva inna my section. Come to fine out she bully di next teacher and she work out something so di boy could tek di class. Fast forward...di kid CRASH and BURN in di class. Not only that...im past di drop date, so im can only ask for incomplete. Cah di kid is a eediat..im parents complaining seh di school muss let im out of di class without cause. Who you tink di hag call

Well today is interim time. For di record I dont like the practice of interim. If you in college ahn cyan keep track of your own progress then you need fi go back to HS but I digress...is what di college decide fi do, so it tan so. Mi get call from di next teacher asking if we &quot;can meet. To go over how things are going.&quot; Mi tell har fine, as mi know fi har classes not going well and put pon top ah daht she have that eediat kid in one ah har sections.

Mi go meet up wid she...who sitting there? di ole hag. So mi lissening them. Mi see she pull out Dept Interim Report ahn inspecting it. then come to ask if mi &quot;having any common issues&quot; so wi can brainstorm

#1 - while interims are common open records. it is an ethical practice that each teacher produce/run them own reports when asked by the DC.

#2 - what she asking questions like she having any barings on anyting fah

#2.5 - mi ahn har have nuttin in common so why was she even there

mi feel mi temperature rising so mi take few deep breaths and sat down at di table. mi all crack open mi coconut water and put piece a gum in mi mouth so it would have something fi distract it.

so mi lissening the conversation. di next teacher want to edit har course outline for second session which start week after next. Mind you them turn in already AND POSTED. Mind you...changing at this date would require DC approval (memba she said she neva want to deal wid summer session?) and it would need to have the signature of the Dean. One of the courses wi have in common, so that mean mine would haffi change to. So mi ask why the course outline need fi change, she start chat some ray-ray bout she feel it not specific about assignments, pre-reqs, point spread...blah, blah, blah. Then di ole hag jump in bout, &quot;Yeah, I'm thinking we need to do something. When we have kids like &lt;insert eediat kid name here&gt; we could probably be more proactive. I PROMISE, mi hand to Jehovah that when mi start break it dung fi di ole hag...mi was calm. Mi hand to gawd. Mi speech was even and controlled and mi purposely tried not to focus directly on har. I made the following points:

1. the course outlines were posted already.
2. if (and that was a big if) they were to be amended, justification would need to be provided. it would need to be signed by our DC and then it would go to the Dean.
3. and just cah the DC and/or Dean get it for review, doesn't mean it would be approved.

She try interrupt me here bout rubber stamps, formality ahn one next ting mi cyan memba, but mi sure it was irrelevant. Mi beg har excuse and continue..

4. what she has communicated to me has not persuaded me that MY course needed amending, as the eediat kid that she keeps using as an example...SHE forced the issue to get im into the class, even when he was clearly unqualified.
5. I dont feel like the issue of her doing a favor and it backfiring is cause for me to even entertain an amendment to my course outline.

She tried AGAIN to interrupt me. This time mi neva beg no excuse, mi just talk right ova har and continued.

6. I am very deliberate in making sure that when mi do things to not make mistakes and as a result of my efforts there are NONE on what mi turn in. An amendment would indicate that the course outline have errors.
7. I went on to say to di ole hag (but mi was really talking to di next teacher) that our DC explicitly said she wanted no issues with summer and this would be an issue and I am not trying to get involve wid no mixup in that area.

So mi ask if she had anything that she wanted to say, as she really is a nice person. But one ah them people weh let people bully har, as to not have confrontations. she seh no. So mi pick up mi things and went back to my office.

mi neva even get chance to siddung good inside of mi office....mi hear, &quot;Hola Everyone!&quot; is di ole hag. As is har custom when she coming into the office, she say individual holas to everyone. here she, &quot;Hola, ILP! oonu know that mi stawt fret when them lock up inside deh for how much minutes why mi not sure. mi stawt rehash everything in my head and stawt rehearse responses for all di scenarios for when mi DC call mi inside.

Bout 20 minutes pass then mi hear di door open and di ole hag come out. ahn she more animated than ever. then mi hear she talking to the secretary, &quot;who do i give this to?&quot; then she yell back raise har voice (loud enough for me to hear of course ) to the DC, &quot;should i just leave it or do you want it, so you can look it over for when you sign it?&quot; mi hear the DC seh (but she sounded kinna tired), &quot;You can give it to me. mi breath a sigh of relief when di ole hag leave and continue to wait till mi hear the DC call me in har office. Well the DC neva call me...instead, she stood in the doorway and said, &quot;Looks like I'll be here late tonight.&quot; Mi look ova fi see she holding up a copy of the di course outline. So mi look pon har like, &quot;O?&quot; She continued, &quot;I asked you two to handle summer session (referencing di next teacher).&quot; Before I could even utter a word, di DC continued, &quot;Not only am I working late to deal with this issue. I had to spend 20 minutes of my life talking her back down from the ledge.&quot; Mi neva seh anything. She continued, &quot;She wanted to file a grievance in HR on you, ILP.&quot;

Mi cut off di DC and said, &quot;For what?&quot;

My DC's response? &quot;You threatened her? Look I know she can be a bit much. But really? I don't have the time to give to HR right now. Even if it is she said she said. I just have too much to do. So this (she hold up the course outline) was the compromise.&quot;

If mi wasnt sitting down mi would have fallen down...that's how shock mi was....

then di DC said, &quot;look just stay away from her, OK? Don't say anything to her. just...you know?&quot; then she said have a good evening then walk back to har office and shut the door.
