Contract or Part-time?

[Peasie]

For over six months I have been happily working as a consultant with a small and profitable little group. I love the work, the people, the schedule and I work 3 days for the week. The project I am on is funded through 2013. They are very pleased with my work and all is copacetic.

So ....

Today the president stopped in my office to thank me for my work, contribution to the group, blah, blah, blah. and would I consider working part-time? There would be benefits including healthcare. Currently I pay for my own health insurance, and even though mi live a Murrika, with a small business, the tax write-off ain't bad at all

Should I go part-time? What yuh tink? What questions mi need to ask when dem approach mi again?

Are the hours, salary and benes same or better than what you're loving now? Is there possibility of a contract for a minimum timeframe (to offset last hired/first fired). What are other possib for growth as an employee? Do they have a slot for DearK?

The hours would be the same. Salary - I don't know as we have not discussed that yet. Mi need advice on dat too .

I believe I would get healthcare benefits from being part time which would be a major incentive. I pay my own health insurance and it not cheap but being self-employed, I get to deduct health care costs from my taxes.

I don't know about last hired/first fired ting

Growth as employee? Mi done wid dem tings now, mi dear. I just like to work and get paid and leave di growth to those who desire those tings.

Bind him to a contract pzely. u know how u miserable already..next ting him try quit pon u .

and what deark said sound sensible. tek out pencil and paper and list out pro and cons.. ...which one more to your advantage? as contract u work your own schedule ? if u go on as an employee will u have to adhere to their schedule...etc

and list out $ pros and cons as well.

What kind of contract can a part-time employee bind with an employer? The contract is more binding

(and this is a serious thread and there is no double meaning here and nothing else is being alluded to )

well most states that i know of employer can fire u without notice or reason right? How u working now..them have to give u notice? what the ting u sign seh?

eta: is the part time lover me was telling u to bind

Pros to contractor-
U work u hours , you go home
if you noh like dem, u look elsewhere
u have tax write off fi u commute, u food, u cyar, u home office, u health insurance
u can add extra $$ into u IRA/ Long term savings tings
u noh haffi write appraisals

Cons to contractor-
no paid vacations
u haffi pay u own taxes
u de 1st to go when dem budget cut cause u are an expense
u haffi pay u own health insurance


Pro - P/T Employee
Depending on the hours you may qualify for benefits
dem pay u taxes fi u

Cons P/T Employee
PT hrs quickly become FT
dem may not pay as much $ upfront
u may end up with a no compete clause in the contract
u have to get appraisals and salary review ting

Exactly. The contract says that each party gives two weeks notice if either party wants to terminate participation on the project.

I am not good at weighing pros and cons right down to the $ . I am one of those people who just go with what I feel is right. And I don't know what I feel with this idea of part-time employee vs. consultant
