When she came in with my Bible study teacher she was wheeling in a bag larger than mine. "You planning on going home?" I asked staring at her bag.

"Lef' mi." She kissed me on my forehead. She ran to the bathroom afterwards, like she always does, and came back looking around like a hospital inspector. My Bible Study Teacher and I held a lengthy conversation about being strong and to remember that the children we have on earth are just loaners that God is his true father and as long as God was there he would need little. He then anounced he was going home to his wife, my mother thanked him and he left. She continued her inspection by lifting my sheets and checking what I had on underneath my gown, she continued this through the labor. "Ma..stop, what are you doing!?"
"Deh check yuh wat else? How come dis hospital setup like hotel suh? When yuh ah walk through the hallway it nuh feel like hospital."
"Well they try to make the stay here comfortable I guess. I heard they were the baby factory of Atlanta, delivering about an average of 100 babies a day. Can you believe that. Well the I285 connects everyone so it's possible." We talked for awhile when my friend, let's call her Shorty, walked in. I know I haven't mentioned Shorty much before, but she took Babysfather's place when he left. she came over and slept with me on nights I didn't feel well and she also didn't leave the hospital until I had Cameron and ate dinner that night, She's Cameron's Godmother. Her and my mother met for the second time (first time was the baby shower) they talked and my sleeping pill took me under as I listened to my baby's heartbeat.

I was awakened by my nurse at 6 am where I was taken to get a shower and prepared for the doctor to arrive at 8am. Doc walked in 8am sharp. That's when my Mother and Shorty finally woke up. The Doc pleasant and told me that my contractions were gonna start shortly after he broke my water. Which they did and they weren't so bad for the first 4 hours of the 6 hour labor.
At the 5th hour my contrations were 2 minutes apart and I thought it was the end of the world. My Mother grabbed her belly everytime I started to breathe hard. Mommy2 came by that morning and rubbed my back with heat packs the whole time. My labor was back labor it felt 10X's worst than menstrual cramps and it centered in the middle of my lower back.

My phone rang and rang. I grabbed it and answered with the little time I had between contractions. It was Babysfather. I didn't want him to know I was in labor then i'd get into a fight about why I didn't call him. So I tried to talk quickly with my 2 minute break.
"What's up?" He asked.
"Nothing chilling."
"What you up to? Why you sound like that?"
"Like what?"
"Like your tired?" My contraction was returning and I was trying to get him of the phone.
"Because I am. Is there something you needed." I couldn't hold it anymore I had to start my breathing.
"Why are you breathing like that? Are you in labor?"
"Yes, Yes i'm in labor can I finish it please or you gonna get one of your WHORES TO AGGRAVATE ME NOW TOO LEAVE ME ALONE!!!!" I hung up before I have never felt such rage in my life the combination of pain and aggravation and hate I had going on right now had me scream into the phone like a maniac.

Doc came in and checked me. "5 more to go this baby will be here by dinner." It was already was 12:30 5 and a half hours had passed and I thought I was gonna lose my mind. They didn't want me to walk around because of my blood pressure and I couldn't handle it anymore. I sat up.
"Whe yuh deh go!?" My mother asked flying up from her seat.
"I can't lay here for another 5 and a half hours Ma. I gotta go walk, I gotta do something." I slipped out the bed and onto the floor and started to pull off my cords, but the nurse, a lady from the V.I.'s came in and put me back in my bed and hooked me back up and told me not to move. I started to cry the pain came back a lot quicker and I couldn't breathe.
"Somethings wrong. Something doesn't feel right!" I screamed to her. My mother jumped up and ran to the bedside, to bad for her I grabbed her and pulled her down to my chest with all the bad feelings that was rushing over me.
"Your fine, just do your breathing."
"If the breathing was working I wouoOOOOOOOEEEEEE!" I felt like I was about to crap myself. I looked up at the time 10 mins had passed this is crazy, i'm not gonna make it for another 5 hours. The nurse just to make sure checked how much I was dialated. I didn't even feel her hand. She rushed over to the phone.
"Doc, Doc, come back to Phatty's room the baby is crowning!! Phatty DON'T YOU DARE PUSH! I'm serious doc she dialated just that fast." Doc arrived as if by wand and hopped around the room rushing to get his scrubs on.
"OK Phatty. When you feel the next contraction coming I want you to push down as hard as you can, okay? Then we will take a break." My contraction came and I took the instruction and Cameron's head popped out, and I heard him scream out.
"Lawd, 'im scream out before di res' ah 'im body come out." My mother said looking shocked.
"Okay, push with the next contrac-, NO! Don't push he's squirming his way out." I gave birth to a 21", 7lbs. 8oz baby on August 16th at 12:59pm. The happiest day of my life. His coming into the world showed me that my life wasn't over like i've been feeling all these months, but it was just starting. The nurse took him and cleaned him off and then handed him back. My mother told me to try and breastfeed him then and he instantly latched on. Di bwoy nuh stop eat from dat. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/704555_dwl.gif[/img]

I kept on hearing from Babysfather since that day. He argued that I didn't give Cameron his last name. I told him he had to be there to sign papers. He called and asked me to send pics. I picture mailed him every inch of the baby to his peach fuss above his top lip which made the nurses coo at how handsome he was (he still has that mustache). And he saw how much the baby looked like him (he said it himself) I heard from him once a month since then and the last time was Christmas and he's changed his number since then. The whole time he didn't offer to help with anything and I didn't ask. I refuse to fight and try and take revenge on someone when I have God for that and he rewards me in the long run.

Cameron and I has been doing okay since. We left Georgia a week after he was born and stay in touch with loyal friends. These friends gave with all their heart at my babyshower and I haven't had to buy a stitch of clothes for him until just recently. The crib was given to him by Mommy2 and his stroller and carseat from 3 of my four bosses and the fourth boss bought him his clothes to serve him up to this point. I really don't regret any of my actions, because they've pushed me to do better and i've learned. The people that I helped that I felt turned their backs on me later on cannot deny that I was a good friend, and the blessings that I was for others came back to me tenfold.

I hope baby's father wise up soon and make the effort to know Cameron cause he'll be missing out on some magic if he doesn't...

I can not imagine what it is like to drive yourself to the hospital to have a baby... I am sure you are an inspiration to some lonely single Mom out there lurking...
