Wedding Gift Etiquette

One of the checks we recieved as a wedding gift bounced.

We have the returned check. It was $25.

Our bank was charged $25 (not a big deal really).

What is the proper way to handle this?

What would you do?

Don't do anything. The person will know from his or her bank statement that the cheque bounced.

I hate that your account gets charged when someone writes you a bad check. How can you know if someone has sufficient funds to cash the thing. You can't check their account.

As far as this goes, the people who wrote you a check should know that it bounced. They might not know you were charged on top of the insufficient funds, but I am sure they are embarrassed. They should try to make it right w/o you having to mention it.

write it off - literally as an unpleasant occurrence. live will go on. the person who wrote it most likely knows it bounced. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif[/img]

Missy, for your information we just had our wedding reception last weekend and that is when we recieved our gifts and checks. We made the deposits a day later. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/fight.gif[/img]

I know Dr bones how would *I* know that the check would bounce 3 days after I recieved it?! We didn't want to hang on to any of them.. in fact we wrote one for $500 that still has not been deposited.. it's been over a week since we paid them.

I did not want to embarrass the person who gave us the check so I wanted to handle it correctly. Perhaps they will make mention of it... I don't think we will [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/70374-lipsrsealed.gif[/img]
