Kaila stirred as the loud snapping from her curtains awakened her. The cool caribbean morning wind was swooping throughout her room from off her balcony. She eyes popped open and watched her sheer curtains dance. This has been her first vacation in three years, she was excited; being that she hadn't the chance to explore the island she moved to a year ago.
She slipped out of bed and out to the balcony where she had a view of the caribbean sea it stretched out in front of her like an empty lot. The calm blue inviting as if asking for her to take a stroll across it. Kaila stretched inviting the wind to envelope her body like a hug from God.
Kaila leaned forward and looked down at the sand in her backyard. She fell into a daze as she remembered her move to the island was so bittersweet. Bitter for the reasons and sweet for the scenic therapy it gave her.
THREE YEARS AGO...
"Kaila we cannot afford a child right now!! I know how you feel, but think of it you just got your dream job why risk this now?!"
"Abortions are wrong Robert, you know this!! I won't feel right." Kaila said the tears streaming down her face. "What if this abortion hurts me? I won't be able to have other children."
"Look, with me just filing bankruptcy and you just getting this job. I think it's a big mistake..." The arguing continued back and forth for hours and Kaila gave in.
After that Kaila buried herself into a new job, hoping to fill that void that she almost instantly felt after the deed was done. She became the most popular party planner in Chicago within a year. Things happened so fast it seemed like over night. She threw big parties for big names. Rappers, actors, and athletes asked for Kaila by name. She was huge.
She sped walk down the street she was late for a meeting with one of her biggest clients. "That's what I get for eating breakfast." She chastised herself wrapping her coat tighter around herself trying to guard against the cold winds. She sped past the coffee shops and took a quick glimps. It took time for the image to sink in, but she stopped and walked backwards to look into the glass.
There sat her boyfriend Robert enjoying coffee with a very pregnant woman. She giggled as he whispered in her ear and rubbed her huge belly. It is as if Kaila's head spun. She instantly felt sick to her stomach and the crowd around her was walking in slow motion. All she could do was watch because one wrong move and her name would be in tabloids and the end of the day. Robert looked up and a stunned look covered his face. His demeanor quickly changed to a calm as if he were looking right through her.
Kaila took a deep breath almost mechanically as she reminded herself to breathe. Her phone began to ring. She reached into her pocket without breaking her stare and answered the phone. "Ms. Richardson, I know it was hard to book you, but I also am a very busy man." Her clients calm voice snapped her into reality.
"I'm sorry Mr. Trump. I'm fifteen minutes away. I should of called."
"Your lucky I like you Richardson." The call disconnected.
Kaila turned and continued on her way. She dialed her assistant. "Vanessa, do you know where to find my extra keys to my apartment?"
"Yes, Ms.Richardson."
"Well grab them get two moving guys and take everything that belongs to Robert out of the loft. And place it on a Ryder drop the Ryder at his office and change the locks at my apartment and make spare keys."
"Very well Ms. Richardson." Her assistant was happy to do it. She hated that coattail riding jerk.
A year after the quiet split Kaila decided to move to the islands. She moved her office with her and most of her employees followed including her assistant. It never hurt her business. If anything it improved it now she catered to island artists and athletes. She was almost known worldwide.
Now the only thing to do was to figure out what to do with all this time she gave herself off. "There can't be much to do on an island." she thought. In do time she found plenty to do.
