Differences between Jamaican men and women

The men are tending to to locks up, beard up and dress casually while the women are straightening their hair, wearing make-up and high heels. Many men say they don't like the hair straightening and make-up but you would never know it from who they date.

The women are tending to speak standard English, the men are tending to want to sound cool and talk patois and sound rootsy much of the time.

The men are tending to be rootsy while the daughtah dem cris'.

Noticing a lot of women are still into the church whereas a lot of men are rejecting the church and Rastafari is more appealing.

Wha' mek? Are we raising the girls THAT differently from the boys? Is it just normal male vs female differences we are seeing?

Never said it was growing....I have no way of knowing that ....I just notice it is mostly men who get on with that INI Selassie I talk.

when last you been to a dance ( assuming dats wat u mean by session. i dont tink dem call it dat these days)
from what i have see i wouldnt say there is more men. wat i see more often is men group together(younger set) and ooman grouped together. most times i see a couples ting or groups of 3-5 same sex singles. you might walk thru a bunch a man but keep walking and u will buck a bunch a soso ooman.
I am no expert bcus i dont pawty dat much but i would say its fairly even split....

Are you asking because you are interested in knowing or just to pass the time like the other day.

I have no need to get into to get into the details of what I have observed where. It is irrelevant.

I hear nuff women using de lingo u say men use, but dem usually know when fi use it, other no.

jamaica is no different den odda place that has be usurped by the christian religion women seem to just follow until supm hapm an dem forced to wake up.
No different den outside a yaad. Men are analysts and after all de analyzing and dem si de lies and untruths in de religion dem gravitate to rastafari in search of a higher reality or truth.
A man can only put up wid so many lies, but a woman lockup in dat religion will forgive all de while cause they have been tought it is right.

Well we naw go gree bout de lie pawt but me get your point.

Again don't agree with the lie part but I don't deny that there are some serious issues within the church and I guess your point is valid that men will only put up with so much.

Dat MUCH too deep fi me you know boss...mi noh ready fi dat. Mi is a bit curious as mi come to realize wi ave been told NUFF lies about Howell, Pinacle and dem ting deh but mi a go ax mi cousin de nex time mi go a yawd and leff it at dat.

I want to visit the Maroons though. My parents did and I remember my Dad saying he never felt more at home than when he was in the Cockpit Country with the Maroons.

Alright just got off the phone with an older cousin and we discussed this very topic.

She said what she is observing in Jamaica is a lot of men with locks ....in her words "dat whole generation dem all gone wid it" ..... a lot of women with wigs and weaves and some women with locks.

She gave me the lowdown bout mi cousin too. He was raised by his mother for a while but then went to live with his father (my great uncle). He lived with my older cousin for a while in Kingston too. When he was in his late teens,...in her words....." fell into bad company and moved to Bull Bay".

She said he was fishing and after a while when he came by to bring her fish. She said "mi was so shock, im did tun Rasta and locks up". She hadn't realized. He used to bring her fish regularly after that. Eventually, his father went to Bull Bay and persuaded him to leave and come home with him. He persuaded him to cut his locks. "Im did cut im locks but im ave de same ideas to dis day. " My cousin also said..."you ave a nex' cousin in England who gone wid it too".

Well this will be an interesting discussion. I have never heard his side of the story. He has cooked for me. He showed me how to roast breadfruit the traditional way and use a traditional iron (he said it does a better job) but we have never had any deep discussions about his matters. I am proud though that I did help resolve a dispute and I actually took his side against my grandmother...God rest her soul.
