Assuming you moved away

A majority of the Jamaicans on this BB have moved away from home. I am sure there are a lot of non-Jamaicans on the BB who have also moved away from home, some who have even moved to Jamaica...

How do you deal with it when you are so homesick, you are actually sick?

We have been in South Florida from the DC area for 2 months and while there are things I [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/inlove1.gif[/img] love [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/inlove1.gif[/img] about living right on the beach... there are times where I am so homesick, missing my sister and their kids, that I am actually sick. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/sick.gif[/img] I have already been home twice and have another trip planned for Thanksgiving. In the meantime I am working out every day, doing qi gong on the beach in the morning, and trying to keep myself busy.

What can you share with me about your own experience moving away from home and ways to deal with missing family and life long friends?

I lasted 4 months in Florida and came running home. I was homesick already and I am not sure what I would have done in the end but I ended up having to come home after being in a fiery car wreck.

I didn't like the roaches, the snakes, or the humidity and then besides the car wreck there was one wicked tropical depression with water as high as car roofs on the roads.

I was so glad when I got north enough to where there was birch trees cause then I knew I was close to home that I bawled, and I haven't gone further than 150 miles away to live since.

I feel your pain. I've been away from my family for a long time and the ache is hard sometimes...especially around the holidays when everyone is doing something with their family. As far as friends, I have huge phone bills and have to have the internet b/c so many of my friends live all over the place. Keeping busy and planning those trips home helps alleviate the pain. I can't wait until I move back home. [img]/forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/bannana_purple.gif[/img]

In di beginning, mi juss read a lot, tekk up some new hobbies and try not to do di sayme tings whe mi use to do back home.

Mi also try an chanjj up mi routine and visit different-different playces pan di weekenn.

Mi pretenn as hiff everyday mi dey pan vacashan suh mi haffi do someting new.

Dose are di tings mi do till mi get use to di place and den mi chanjj mi fone numba and block mi ole time frenz an family fram getting in touch widd mi an spenn mi money guh a different places, esprecially inna di winta time. my girl yuh still in the same country(surrounded by same culture, food etc). a simple road trip can fix things like seeing family.
for people like me, I'm an alien. a legal alien but still...
Just yesterday after chatting with my friend on the phone the thought popped in my mind that his voice reminded me of home.
