Coworker had a house warming at which her Jamaican beau was present. Him and I were the only Jamaicans there. I was in the process of moving and neva waa go, but she badger mi an badda mi til mi say yes.
Got there, told her I could only stay a minute and that I'd asked David to pick me up in an hour.
So people started trickling in. Her man arrived. I began chatting to him, asking him questions like where in Ja he's from, blah blah. He's asking me the questions back so it's all good. I thought.
Then I asked him, so what're your intentions concerning coworker. She overheard and freaked out. told me I was being awkward.
The thing was, she had been going on and on about dude for ever! She didn't know what his real intentions were and though she likes to think she's ballsy and plain speaking, she's not. I asked her, before the party, if she wanted me to find out for her. She said to me, you can't ask someone that. Why not? You just can't.
So you don't want me to ask, I ask her. Well, it's not that, she says. It just seems an awkward thing to ask (she likes that word - awkward).
Anyway, I was on a deadline, I needed to be up out of there, so I just asked. I thought she was outside, but she heard me and started freaking out about me being awkward. And she yells at him to not answer. He just sat there looking bemused.
I chalked it up to her being young and was grateful when David pulled up.
