The person needed financial help sometime back. They asked and I said supm like 'Well, I get paid this Friday so I'll help you then'.

I thought that was the end of that, but it look like dem mawk it dung pan dem calendar an now everytime payday come roun, mi get a text, dem need help.

You are not overreacting... Do you HAVE to help this person all the time? The monitoring of your pocket will not stop.

I've just now starting to have the gumption to stop financially supporting every tom dick and harry who sey dem bruck and looking a smalls. It is a stressful situation and already you're under stress cause yu si sey dem a watch and wait for Friday payday.

Monitoring when you get paid so they can beg...er...um....make their requests? No, you are not overreacting and that person is behaving like a leech. However, did you let them know you would "always" help them? If you opened that door, it might be very difficult to close it. One option would be to, if you can afford it, add an amount to your budget that you can comfortably give them (every pay period or every other pay period) and then ask them to stop texting you.

IMO, that would qualify as overreacting. Unfortunately, sometimes people who are desperate do desperate things and that can be hard to understand unless we put ourselves in their shoes.

I have been wrestling with this since yesterday - as to whether I am overreacting or just how annoyed it's making me. This person did say in the text that they were desperate, but it's the fact that they've texted me (for three consecutive paydays now) that I'm having an issue with.

I'm trying to get over it, but it's bugging me. I thought about calling them and telling dem fi stop monitor mi pay days, but that would end badly and as mi say, it's smaddy mi care deeply about.

My cheque already sucks, and to now expeck a text everypay day listing some new 'dire' situation, is just \o/

what would I have done? Like what Diplomat suggested ... let them know you are always there to support them even though it is a financial hardship. Maybe let them know you are going to set aside $x for them every month for six months. Will they agree with that?
