Desperate Women - Why Oh, Why Oh?

Well it look like my male counterpart blugiant has already covered many aspects of this topic. He has posted about desperate women who mind man, desperate women who tie man, desperate mzungu playtings, and so on.

But there is one angle which I think we should explore in more depth.

First some examples:

- Did you hear about the Jamaican-born woman who was so desperate to find a man that she did go back a yawd and tek up wid one handcyart man? When de dolly house did mash up, she did tun lesbian?

Why would any woman be so desperate that she would tek de before nutten anyting approach to hitch up wid a man who is far from appropriate and then so desperate as to turn lesbian on top a it?

Second Example:

This is what has inspired this thread, the latest desperate woman:

- Rob Ford is Toronto's bloated, drunken and crack smoking mayor. Yet his wife Renata Ford has stuck with him for 10 years. 10 years.

The thing that makes this even worse is that he was up on assault charges filed by his ex-wife. The charges were dropped recently but she would have known about them so why did she hitch up with this man in the first place. Why stick with a drunken crackhead when children are involved and bound to be damaged by his behaviour?

Do some women really have such low self-esteem that they will take any loser just to say they have a man?

The hilarious part is when these same women turn around and mock women who have decided not to settle and to wait for someone of character to come along. They can be quite vicious in their attacks especially when dem know fi dem own dolly ouse not in ordah.

Remember the movie Mona Lisa Smile? If I find the clip I will share it.

EDITED TO ADD: Found it...see how she attacks the woman when fe ar own husband a rooks around pon ar. She attacks 3 women....and at the end she breaks down as her own dolly house aon the verge of mashing up. .

As I stood in the Huffington Post newsroom on Wednesday, watching Rob Ford admit on live television to smoking crack cocaine, I didn't think about all his lies, I didn't think about what an embarrassment he is, I didn't think about the fact he needs some serious help. Nope, those thoughts came later. What I thought about then and there was Ford's wife,Renata.Until about 10 years ago, I would have wondered "how on earth does a woman stay with a man like that?" I would have thought of her as weak for not leaving him -- a man who's been in numerous public "drunken stupors," a man who was charged with assault after police were called to their home, a man who confesses to smoking crack. No woman should stand for that, right? She should kick him to the curb or take her kids and run, right?
But I know better than that now. I was married to an alcoholic for 12 years, and I didn't leave.
Living with an alcoholic is draining. It slowly chipped away at me until I was a pile of rubble. By the end of it, I was an emotional mess and wasn't sure what I thought or who I was.
Alcoholics are fantastic at the bait and switch and trying to get a straight answer from my ex was like trying to nail Jell-O to a wall. If he came home two hours late with no explanation, and I dared to ask where he was or why he didn't answer his mobile, I never got a straight answer. Somehow, he would manage to turn it back on me: "Why don't you trust me? I thought we were on the same team here."
After he walked out (yup, he left me), I finally went through all his bank statements only to discover he was spending $1,000 to $1,500 at the Beer store and LCBO every month for about a year. When I confronted him, he sneered: "I don't have a problem, I just like to have a good time."
And the fact that he'd taken out a line of credit without my knowledge, racked up his credit cards and had put us nearly $40,000 in debt? He told me that he'd put more than that amount into the renovations he'd made to the house. There was no point in arguing with him. Nothing. Was ever. His fault.
During our marriage, he had slowly isolated me from many people. He had me convinced his family hated me and his friends could barely tolerate me. I didn't really have anyone to talk to or listen to. Where would I even start in explaining the whole mess anyway? All I could hear were his words: "You don't know how good you have it. You are so lucky to have me for a husband."
Before he left, he'd come home at least three times a week unable to walk straight or form a complete sentence. When I'd ask him if he was drinking, he'd flat out deny it, saying he was just tired and stressed. I honestly thought I was going insane. I would start to watch other people carefully when they said they were tired, hoping they'd act like he did to prove he wasn't lying.
Was I stupid to believe him? To not trust my gut that something was horribly, horribly wrong? Sure, if you take out all the emotion, abuse, fear, isolation and loneliness, you could say I was beyond stupid. But I think of it more as willful ignorance -- I simply didn't want to see it.
We were married young. I had just turned 20 the month before we tied the knot. We were nearing our 12th anniversary when he suddenly left on an April afternoon in 2007, stating he no longer loved me and would never return. Leading up to that, I didn't want my marriage to fall apart. I had too much time invested in it and in him. I had made a commitment and, most importantly, I couldn't imagine being a single parent (our daughter was only 20 months old).
After hearing that I was the problem all along for so many years, I truly believed it. Besides, I was lucky to have him as a husband, wasn't I?
So when I stood there, listening to Ford tell the mob of reporters, "I wasn't lying. You didn't ask the correct questions. No, I'm not an addict and no I do not do drugs"... it was like listening to my ex deny, deny, deny being drunk or having a problem of any kind.
It's infuriating to listen to. Just imagine living with it every day.

There are always so many ways to look at such situations. It is very sad. It seems appropriate to say the wife should have left him as it was potentially dangerous if she stayed, plus it's not the kind of environment kids should be raised in. In another sence, that is the easy way out. When you love someone, and you see them withering away due to bad habbits and addictions, you think about what they mean to you and what you can do to help. You become selfless and give everything to help the one you love. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. It is easy to stay on the outside and judge what should and shouldnt be, but each situatuion is unique and depends on the persons involved, things that happened previously and what might have initiated certain actions.
I am not taking a position here, I just love to be as objective as possible. Things are not as black and white as we tend to see them.

She has been called a quiet introvert, a ghost and even the invisible wife, but this week Renata Ford, the slight and silent significant other of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, appeared in the public spotlight for the first time since he was elected three years ago.On an early morning this week, Toronto mayor entered city hall and shocked the world by describing in graphic detail a sexual act he allegedly performs on his wife and only his wife.
Faced with fresh claims from a released police document of drug use and drunken carousing, Rob Ford dug his teeth into one specific allegation – that he had made sexual advances to a former female staff member.
“It says I wanted to EDIT and I have never in my life said that to her. I would never do that. I’m happily married. I’ve got more than enough to EDIT at home,” Rob Ford said to the shock of everyone from city councillors and veteran city hall reporters to late-night television hosts.
At home, of course, is wife Renata Ford, a notoriously private character in the Ford saga. She has not been seen at a significant public event since Election Night 2010 celebrations, but she was at city hall on Thursday.
Within hours of making his obscene claim, Rob Ford had dragged his wife in front of the media where, visibly uncomfortable, she stood silently as he addressed his decision to discuss the affairs of their bedroom in front of live television cameras.

"Respect my family's privacy," he said, before leading her through a wall of cameras and reporters, instead of the unobstructed side entrance he usually uses in such instances. With that, Renata Ford's undesired time in the spotlight was over. She left city hall uttering very little aside from, "I think my husband said already enough."
