This couple has been dating for 5 years, he has been saying for this God awful big ring that she wants, cause her friend of course has a big rock on her finger. <span style="color: #3333FF">Nope. MrBlue and I have bands. I didn't want a rock, certainly not a diamond. I might have considered a sapphire but engagement rings are ridiculously costly and it seems to me that the money could be better spent elsewhere. </span>

When I got engaged I didn't want a ring, but then I changed my mind. It was the most thrilling quest, unlike buying a pair of jeans which is a sorry waste of 6 hours. The ring is important to me because it symbolises the commitment we have made to each other, and the hopes we have for our future. But it isn't the thing that holds us together, it hasn't broken the bank, and it isn't entering a competition for biggest bling. I would think him a fool to spend a fortune on something I could drop down the sink. We are keeping that money for something a bit more substantial - and I am not talking about the wedding or the honeymoon.
