There is nothing you can do, but listen and be there for that person. Don't bring that person up in conversations until the other person does so. Allow them to vent their anger and pain without interruptions.
I've found that when I've asked, "How are you doing?" (<---especially, when I kinda know the situation) and the person reponds with "I'm OK" or "I'm Fine". I usually come back with "Is that your game face answer?" That usually opens the door for them to talk. I listen and dont interrupt either. I also dont offer advice, unless they ask.
If they still dont open up, then I leave them with the invitation. Some take me up on it others dont.
