Family travel

I;ve never heard of this practice, but apparently its a practice or custom of some Caribbean, well I;m actually not sure where it came from, so maybe we'll learn here. The practice is for the whole family to never travel together. I heard this of a Jcan family who had a daughter marry an African man. She moved to Africa and when they would travel to Jamaica to visit, she would travel with some (or all) of the children and the husband would follow on a different date.

Anybody ever heard of that? I find that odd- if not a hardship- why should one parent have to struggle with the kids, especially on such a long trip. Kids can be rough travel mates, when they're really young, and going it alone with them whoof

Oh the rationale is that if the plane crashes the whole family wouldnt be wiped out. Yup!

I have Jewish friends who, when their kids were young, all four would travel together on a family vacation but when Mom and Dad had a trip together without kids, they flew on separate flights.

The kids were a distraction? I cant imagine travelling separately for a family/couples vacation. Part of the fun of the trip is the flight there!

this i know of and not just jewish families but families who generally plan ahead and have put some thought into family/estate planning i.e who will look after the children if both parents perish at the same time

reason being that if there is an accident the children aren't left alone (or with guardians) because one parent is still alive

personally when I travel I am usually knocked out suh it wouldn't matter to me whether the Mr is beside me or not. I wouldn't notice

I remember thinking whether they would do the same with car travel? When they went out, did they take separate cars? A person will more likely die in a car crash than a plane crash, right?

When our children were little, we made sure we had our wills made out as far as who will take care of them, etc.

you drive far more often that u tek plane so the odds will be higher just from that. airplane also prob just seem scarier - dropping from the sky and all that...you automatically think that the chances of you surviving that are lower.

Now that the aircraft are much more computer guided there are much less chances of perishing in a plane disaster.

I remember back in the day when you would hear of a plane crash pretty regular. These days, while they still are a possibility, the frequency is much less.

Less reliance on humans to fly = less chance of human error. I feel much more at ease flying today than I did twenty or thirty years ago..

I have heard of this with corporate executive teams. I also vaguely remember when my ex was travelling home for his mother's funeral there was talk about it not being wise for the siblings to travel together.
