Not sure if this belongs here or in parenting.
Anyway, in Canada, it is a trend to have fathers and, in some cases, siblings
in the delivery room. Not sure if this has hit Jamaica but it certainly was not common practice. I know my Mom told me that when I was born, my Dad dropped her off at the hospital and then went to work.

Now if it were me, this would have been grounds for divorce.
Anyway he was a wonderful father so I am glad she stuck with him.
When we went to the hospital my doctor who had been so gentle and supportive throughout the pregnancy, always spoke calmly and quietly, totally freaked out when he heard my ex was not going to be in the delivery room. He blasted him and said "you get in there and support your wife". Anyway, my ex says he is glad he did it but I thought it was a bit much to force him. It was always understood that he was too squeamish for this so I had never even raised the topic with him. Throughout pre-natal classes, it was just understood that he would not be there but in the waiting room.
- So, what do you think, should fathers be in the delivery room?
- Should fathers be forced to be in the delivery room?
- Would you stay with a man dropped you off at the hospital and went to work?
- How about you men, have you been in the delivery room for the birth of any of your children?
- What would you do if a doctor forced you to be in the delivery room if you didn't want to be there?
Inquiring minds want to know.

For the life of me, I don't know what made me think of this topic today.
